This sounds all well and good and yes more people watched on TV than were there on the course. But as someone who was there, the two races and the start times were ideal. By the time both the men's and women's field were in the 3rd and 4th loop its was only a few minutes after one group went by that the next one came. It made watching a marathon in-person very exciting.
Agreed, and having it over two days also increases the cost for the organizing committee. That's the last thing we need to do.
Only complaint was not being able to cross the course. One map in the lead-up to the race had designated pedestrian crossings during the race. They seemed to eliminate those a day or two before. I was hoping to swap between the races under the highway overpass on the long southern stretch of the course, and then get back to the finish for both races. But that wasn't possible.
