You only need one guy who isn’t Mantz or Young to run sub 2:08:10 at the trials, doesn’t need the top 3 tomorrow to do so.

What was the context of this? Did Fauble say it would take that to get 3rd? Or did he say it'll take that kind of effort? I buy it taking that kind of effort. Could see 2:10ish getting 3rd & that effort being closer to 2:08 with cooler weather.
Also what do you want the guy to say? I'm not preparing to run fast. A guy like Fauble has to convince himself he can go with/run that pace even if it's not happening. I wouldn't take it so literal. It's the right mindset for him to have heading into the biggest race on his calendar.
I will win the prediction contest and I predicted the winner at over 2:09.
It's a shame that 40 years later we still obsess over 2:08 when the rest of the world is running much quicker -
Rojo breathes a sigh of relief
There was never a doubt Rojo would not have to pay...
What happened to Scott out there? Anyone watch the race?
Think I saw someone in another thread say he stopped to throw up, started again, and then dropped out

Start the race at 6 or 7 today & you get faster times. 3rd place took 2:08:10 effort today. Korir has run 2:07. Go to Berlin/London every year & Americans will have faster PBs. We're sending a strong marathon team. Panning was 11th at Worlds. We're sending 3 guys who were stronger than him on the day & the other good marathoning countries (yes, the US is a good marathoning country even if there's a gap to the very top). All 3 guys can place in the top-10 in Paris. Even if we're talking about 2:08, the US has had good results in the marathon at Worlds/Olympics.
I agree US has been exceeding expectations in the marathon at the Olympics. But the typically hot weather and limit of 3 per country helps.
American PRs would be faster if there wasn’t such a stark trade off between Boston/NY/Chicago appearance fees and going to a Berlin/Valencia and going all in on a fast time.
BUT. The 2:08:10 to make the team comment, given the weather forecast, was misguided.
