Of course there is. Whether you like it or not, the conversions are not records. Take it up with Usatf, track and field news and National Federation of HS Athletics.
In this case, Cain's by all logic ought to be the record, because you cannot pass two miles in 9:39 without running 3200m in less than 9:39, so you cannot have a 9:47 or 9:45 3200m record when someone's run 2M in 9:39.
There are different records for different events. Simple. Take it up with the dolts who still schedule this stuff. We have a 1500, 1600, and a 1609M record. Stupid. But yes, Cain is indeed the queen in reality of the 32 and 2 mile I will agree there. She has run through 3200 way faster.
I agree. It has always been an issue for me. My State's high school mile record is faster than the 1600 record. The longer event should count with doing any conversion.
I feel like if people are going to insist on running the Mile and and 2 mile when they set up a meet (with super eilte runners), they should start putting up elec timing equipment at the 16 and 32! It would be accurate.
If a marathon record is broken and they remeasure and discover the course was 10 meters long, the record will count. A longer distance should always count straight up for a shorter distance.
Do you know what her splits were in the 3200? I can't find the meet or the actual race results.
From the Milesplit story
Volunteer coach Jennifer Breuer described Leachman as just chilling, smiling and laughing throughout the race. "She [Leachman] started laughing at me when she went through the mile under five minutes and she just kept speeding up," Breuer shared.
Yes that to me seems to indicate she negative split it. And that their approach to this was just a "workout" and they were not necessarily focusing on maximizing her time also keeps me wondering about her true potential. Assuming she avoids injury, where is this kid in two years. Shoot, where is this kid by June...
Literally no reason to downvote my post. I am right.

At the very minimum, what would a 9:39 2 miler split in a 3200? Somewhere in 9:35.x.
Believe me, I'm communicating with her and her parents on a daily basis and persuading her to stay in San antonio and run for me on the collegiate level at this university. I'll get her. Just watch.

Some meets do. The fastest recorded 3200 time is 9:44.74 run indoors by Sydney Thorvaldson three years ago. It was a two mile race but they had a timer set up at 3200.
There were already three faster 3200s indoors than Tuohy's outdoor record. Leachman is now #2 on the combined in/out list. Tuohy #5.

groan…and I was thinking we needed a Black Page for her taking down one of Tuohy’s big records.
Great run by Leachmam, but Cain ran 9:39 for two miles. So tired of people acting like mile v 1600 and 2mile v 3200 are separate records
Yes, Cain is still the HS queen of the 3200m. This was the second time in three years that the "record" has been broken. Brynn Brown ran 9:38 a few years ago during Covid.
Posted via her insta. She’s on another level. Converts to about an 8:59 3000m. Brown >>> Tuohyhttps://www.letsrun.com/news/2020/05/high-schooler-brynn-brown-runs-second-best-3200-in-us-hs-girls-history/

We now have generational talents Cain, Effraimson, Mu, Tuohy, Cook, Hutchins, Wiley, and Leachman all within about 10 years.
You may want to include Junior Sadie Englehardt after this weekend…
Oh I think many have considered Engelhardt a generational talent since 8th grade. Maybe especially in 8th grade. As for this weekend, that line up is looking great. I wonder if Shea has advanced enough with her fitness to allow her to hang with Sadie at all. I know we havent seen great times out of her as of yet.

Right, but the result is what matters. There’s no “it looked easy” conversion.
Show some respect to Leachman. The thread title omits her name. Yes, Tuohy was a phenom, but Leachman broke her record. Say the name Elizabeth Leachman.
Yes x 1000. Leachman is the record holder now. Change the thread title to reflect her performance. This is a perfect example of the biased treatment some runners receive on this board.
