Do you have a source for that? Everything I have read says that the LDS Church does not own stock in the Coca-Cola Company. That includes their investment fund, Ensign Peak.
Historically caffeine in all forms was frowned upon in Mormonism. Only in the last 20ish years has that started to shift. There are some Mormons who still take the no coffee/tea rule to its logical end and avoid caffeine altogether, but most have no qualms ingesting it in holier forms than drinks served at the devil's temperature.
I thought I read somewhere that banning "hot drinks" was likely originally intended to mean drinks with alcohol but somewhere along the lines was also interpreted to mean drinks with a hot temperature?
Not sure if a troll post, but Mormons definitely can have caffeine. Specifically they are supposed to avoid coffee, black tea, and green tea. It is speculated among some that this will go away at some point, but it hasn’t yet and it doesn’t seem imminent under current leadership.
Utah has soda shops selling flavored Diet Coke like Seattle has Starbucks.
What is the logic there?
Anyway, Mantz loads up on geritol, and joint supplements probably at his age.
The state of Utah isn't owned by any church. Also coffee and tea do have caffeine in them but that is not all they have in them. Tea has tannic acid which isn't good for the body. The church teaches that we shouldn't use addictive substances. Coffee and tea are specifically spelled out that they shouldn't be used but as a general principle, people shouldn't use addictive substances.
”In summary, caffeine intake showed a meaningful ergogenic effect in increasing the time to exhaustion in running trials and improving performance in running time trials. Hence, caffeine may have utility as an ergogenic aid for endurance running events. More evidence is needed to establish the ergogenic effect of caffeine on endurance running in women or the best dose to maximize the ergogenic benefits of caffeine supplementation.”
Yes but this is largely due to a boost in adrenaline in an otherwise non stimulating environment. For elites, races provide the adrenaline one needs. This is a complex subject. I know the studies. I also know the facts, and one must interpret the studies with skepticism due to the context.
this. first time I used caffeine for training, I was amazed how easy it seemed to go fast.
But when it came to racing, more often than not it got me too wound up. Too full of fear, doubt, anxiety, negative feedback loops. Mentally detached, weak, strangely tired before the races even started. There are magic-pill stimulants that can push you beyond your normal limits, but caffeine's not one of them.
Caffeine doesn’t help most people race faster. That is a myth.
Agreed!! ......It helps ALL people.
No, there have been studies on this, and most people benefit from caffeine, but a smaller fraction of people don't benefit or perform worse. I'm one of those that perform worse with caffeine. I tried with/and without for a year after reading that NYT article with wejo in it and found that caffeine was definitely bad for me.

Mormons waiting for the Patch Notes from "god" at every General Assembly.

The poster claimed "caffeine doesn’t help most people". Of course there are exceptions but the overwhelming # of scientific studies verify that it is indeed a performance enhancing drug.

I wasn't responding to "the poster". I was responding to you, who changed it to "helps ALL people".
Look at the error bars on this 2023 meta study for time trial performance. There's a lot of people on the placebo side of the line.
"Statistically, Mormons are the happiest people in America. But as I found, the truth is more complex than that. As well as rating as happiest, Mormon Utah statistically has the highest rate of anti-depressant use, and depression is a particular challenge for Mormon women."
