This is a very North American dominated forum. Soar has exploded in Europe where there is a market for club and hobby distance apparel.
does not mean it is worth it by any means, but in the “disposable income to burn” or “club/institution money to burn” categories, it is generally replacing lower quality products left and right (eg. heavy, waterlogged singlets)
personally a lot of their designs are a big miss, not sure they’ve hit their stride in that department yet.
My wife recently got The North Face Pacesetter Run shorts, $75 at REI, which have lots of pockets and fit well over her hips. I got Patagonia Strider Pros for all the pockets, $85 though certain colors are on sale on their site right now. Looks like women's is lower priced, yet comes in only one length option. At this point, if I were choosing shorts for marathon/trail training to carry key and fuel, I'd probably simply prioritize comfort and get one of those slip-on belts for storage.
What do you guys do with all this pocket estate? Fill them with rocks to weigh yourself down like crocodiles?
I have a t-shirt and a couple of vests by Soar. It's really high quality, but massively overpriced. I think the On performance range is just as good and can usually be found half price. I should say that I prefer really thin and lightweight apparel and nothing compares to Soar and On performance range in that respect
Have had Soar stuff for a while as am London-based. Putting the prices aside for a second;
The tops are great - the jackets are fantastic and the material for the singlets are super super light but that being said it ends up holding onto alot of water so not a good option when indoors on a treadmill etc
The shorts are similiar - really light but hold onto alot of water + have some of the worst sizing I've ever seen from a brand, I stopped buying them because they must model them on some 20kg beanpole - various iterations of their split shorts have all just been bad sizings which is a shame because I'm a very normal runner build, especially when the brand/company is so small you'd think they want to appeal to as wide an audience as possible
finally the prize. £495($629) for a raincoat? GTFO, Idk who they think they are.
Just when we thought Tracksmith was expensive, I stumbled upon a $200 pair of running shorts and am intrigued. Has anyone tried them?
I’ve never bought a pair of the Soar Marathon Shorts, but the gel storage technique (elastic gel loops) is something similar to what Jake Riley did at the 2020 marathon trials by sewing women’s hair ties on his shorts. I think he called them “gel holsters.”

The shorts I was looking at (technically $180) were the Marathon Shorts. It's pretty hard to find shorts like those made for women.
Rabbit has comparable shorts l, Fuel and Fly, for $60, sometimes $40. It has five pockets. I have a slightly different model that has 3 pockets, one in back and two in liner. It's enough room for 8 Gels. I recommend those. Quality is good. I won't try Soar not because what is said here but because they give their crap to the most obnoxious influencers out there, and I don't want to support the Matt Foxx/Matt Choi/Nick Bare ecosystem.
the only problem I have with the company's gear is your going to be sore after getting reemed by the prices.
Lols LRC poors can't conceive that there are prices that are perfectly reasonably to people used to having the ability to pay for the highest quality. Not everyone is interested in your Chevy.
Look for the REI Swiftland short. You can usually find past seasons colors at a real bargain, the pocket solution is great and they fit well. Not sure of the women's options but mens come in multiple inseam lengths.
I only heard of them on a podcast (marathon talk I think). When I first heard sponsored by "sore" I thought why on earth would someone name their product used for running "sore"
