Paul Chelimo
By far the most talented guy in the field but the marathon is a different beast. I think top 10 would be a great result for him but I wouldn’t be shocked if he found a way to podium if he races with patience.
will the shoes put him at a dsiadvnantage
His fueling better be on point.

Imagine he's actually most gifted at the 'thon and we were missing out on it the last decade lol

It's hard to predict with Chelimo. He doesn't have strong half marathon or 25k results that we can use to gauge his marathon potential. There is no doubt about his raw talent but the marathon is a different beast all together as was clearly demonstrated by Cheptegei's poor performance at Valencia. Marathon needs more than talent it needs serious adaptation .His temperament is also a misfit for the marathon. The marathon needs a patient monastic temperament.Chelimo is easily excitable and impatient. I just can't see him putting in the high mileage, the long runs that are needed to perform well in a marathon. I reckon that's the reason the likes of Farah and Tedese couldn't crack the marathon, they just didn't have the temperament for it.Chelimo belongs to that category too.Anyway let's wait and see but I don't expect much from him in the trials.
What is the over/under on the number of incidents he has like that during the marathon ?
Awesome! New dark horse to shake things up.

Who was 2003 World Champion, 2004 Olympic Bronze Medalist and 2008 Olympic Silver Medalist at 5000m?
(same Olympic medals as Chelimo)
I love what you did there. Well played.
no idea how Chilemo will do at the trials race, but I’m fascinated to see it!
Paul gonna run 2:13 or DNF

No way he finishes 15th. He either makes the team or DNFs.

The reason that Farah wasn't a better marathon runners is because he was one of the faster 1500m runners in the world in his time (3:28.81, still a European record). Nobody with enough fast twitch to run that type of time is going to be equally good at a mile.
His 2:05.11 win over Rupp in Chicago, setting a European record, isn't exactly an embarrassment.
Hopefully he can have his own streets so he wont complain and getting pushed by the other guys lol

Paul has been in Kenya per his recent IG activity, does anyone know who has been coaching him in the buildup? I know he was with Scott Simmons in CO Springs for a bit.
Yes, with Simmons for a bit... since 2016. Six marathoners at the Trials.
Think this is reasonably measured. I like Chelimo & I'm excited to see a runner with his talent debut at the Trials. We know talented runners can debut & make the team. But we also know how difficult the marathon is. A lot of his (real) PBs are from years ago. 1:02 in this day & age is but but that, alone, wouldn't have someone saying he has a shot at making the team. It just feels like the marathon requires specificity & not a few months of focused training. If anybody can prove that wrong, it's a guy like Paul Chelimo. I'd expect him to be in the lead pack for a lot of the race.
THE Paul Chelimo?
