This is a simple call. One of these men is just a guy from Edmonton, the other is the second fastest high schooler of all time and the indoor and outdoor time New Balance Nationals 800m champion, CADE MF FLATT!!!
All Cade has ever been is an overaged yapper who got a few seconds off of the high school all time record as a 19 year old with carbon clown spikes. He gets folded like a cute boy in jail every time he races these days. Isn’t he running mid 1:5X’s these days??
You’ve just listed a bunch of runners who aren’t as good as Arop. I don’t think you realise that being the second fastest US high schooler of all time means absolutely nothing outside of the US. It’s a far less impressive achievement than being your nation’s outright record holder and a world champion. Plus, Arop’s PB is almost 4 seconds faster than Flatt’s…
I would argue Brazier is just as good or even more talented as Arop, as impressive as his Budapest victory was I think Brazier's 1:42 gold in Doha is even more remarkable. You are correct about the others, though Sumner could get there in a few years.
As for Mr. Flatt, he might be a good pacer for Arop in the first 600 meters if he goes all out.
I would argue Brazier is just as good or even more talented as Arop…
Oops… I missed him.
Either way, this thread must either be a troll or the original poster is completely delusional.
That was in 2019. In 2024 it could be an entirely different matter.
Flatt and Sumner are potential stars (Sumner has a Ncaa medal, Flatt does not). But until that potential is realized, all they are is potential. Murphy was an Olympic medalist (and his fastest time) in 2016. 8 years later few are betting on his getting a medal in Paris, and fewer are betting on Brazier (given his injury resume since 2019). Based on 2023, the favorites are Wanyonyi and Arop, after that who knows. Not sure either of these two can run away from the field either, so tactics will play a part, just as it did for Arop winning world's. Does Flatt know how to run a tactical 800m? Beating a bunch of teenagers as a HSer is not the same as beating a world-class field, or even an NCAA field.
I'm hoping to see Cade run a time that is in line with his potential. He's a great young runner at a very good school. If his injuries have healed I am thinking he will run a good time in the right race. Marco is in a base training time just looking to keep some sharpness as he builds for Paris. Two excellent runners at different stages in their careers.
Arop-the first Canadian world 800champion. He ran that race with a lot left in the tank all while at the back of the pack 250 to go you see his real potential seemingly gaping the field before the turn.
That race was confirmation. Hopefully he's built upon that and knows he belongs near the front. His Rudisha like build though I don't know how that will fare on indoor tracks but being in Edmonton I'm sure he's only been running indoors
