He’ll probably start working at one to keep himself out of debt and minimize the gap in employment.
Then continue to look for the coaching job.
I’m sure he would rather work at a coffee shop than coach high school again
Not sure why he or others think high school is a bad option. It’s the only place he’s ever coached successfully and his best chance to maximize his pay. He has a CA teaching credential and could make over $100k where that would be a major stretch with any other coaching gig.
He has one unsuccessful year in college, but a handful of epic years in high school. Why not prove you can do it in another situation and dispel the got lucky with 2 families narrative?
Somehow he thinks high school is beneath him, but it’s really his best and maybe only option. I think his ego isn’t aligned with what is available to him.
Yes, Brosnan would probably make more money as a high school coach than he would as a college coach. But it's not about the money for him. He really wants to prove that he can be a successful coach at a higher level than high school.
Plus, if Brosnan did coach high school again, there is zero chance that he would replicate the success he had at Newbury Park. Brosnan could probably coach a high school team that eventually qualified for NXN, but that team still wouldn't be nearly as good as Newbury Park. Having brothers as talented as the Youngs and the Sahlmans on a team at the same time is a once in a lifetime fluke.
He doesn’t need to go back to high school to prove he is a great coach. Do some research no other coach has produced more sub 9 kids in high school than Brosnan. Everyone thinks it was all Young’s and Salhman which is not true it’s a very long list. Also he didn’t have a bad performance year at UCLA. He simply pissed off people and wasn’t retained. He needs to coach college again…. i would let my kids run for this guy in a heartbeat.
Who takes jobs to prove something to others? Seems kinda dumb to me.

Other than the Youngs and Sahlmans he coaches one officially under 9 (Appleford) and one unofficially at a time trial (Aschbrenner). Jesuit’s coach has coached 9 under 9. His coaching gig at UCLA was most definitely unsuccessful. He was fired. Stop gaslighting everyone about Brosnan’s greatness. He was a good high school coach and his best option for coaching and making a living is most definitely high school.
I'm not a big Brosnan guy, but sheesh, give credit where credit is due. He developed a LOT more than just the Sahlmans and Youngs. Ever heard of Sam McDonald? How about the gal that ran 4:50ish (Fiona) and went to Adams and ran 16:14 as a frosh. Appleford-8:53, Ashenbrener ran 8:40, No? Plenty more.. and in just a few years. While you're comparing him to Walt at Jesuit, how many years has it taken Walt (a legend btw) to coach those 9 sub 9 guys? And how many years was Sean at NP? Love him or hate him, he proved himself to be one of the best ever at the HS level. Again, I'm Not a big Brosnan fan.. just a fan of the sport.

Relax. I was responding to a post that said there was a long list of sub 9’s besides the Youngs and Sahlmans and he had more than anyone else.
The long list is either one or two (depending if you consider Aschbrenner’s official) and Walt Lange coached more. Those are facts.
So Jace runs 9:05 as a junior in 2019... Then runs a 14:04 at Woodbridge the XC season before Covid. Then his senior track season is basically swept away, but he Still manages an 8:44 in a 3 man race (all HS'rs) in his One shot to break 9, and you're not counting it!? OK.

You have to be honest and admit that Brosnan also lived in the most talented school district the nation has ever seen. The Youngs and Sahlmans (5 combined), and some talented women as well. Most high school coaches go their entire careers and never see 1 boy capable of breaking 4:20 nor 1 girl capable of breaking 5:00.
He also benefited tremendously from shoe technology relative to older coaches. Breaking 9 in the 90s was extremely rare, so another coach having 30 more years of experience doesn't make much of a difference for the sub 9 count.
If Brosnan wants more credit, he should stop posting in threads about himself and start proving himself at another school. He won't because he knows he got lucky and can't replicate that again, so he thinks his best chance is waiting around for a mid-major college offer instead of being exposed as a mediocre coach with another high school job.

Again, relax. I didn’t say I count it or don’t count it. It wasn’t in an official race, but he did run it. You can judge it how you want. Regardless, the list is 1 or 2 and there are coaches who have coached more. Not judging, just pointing out a fact that is contrary to the original post claiming it was a long list and more than anyone else.
No. HE would not make more as a high school coach. You are talking about him making money as a teacher. He can be a HS teacher and a college coach and earn even more. HE could be a stok broker and a HS coach and earn more.

You're not being realistic. Most high school coaches are also employed by their school district as a teacher. There aren't many colleges whose track coach is a high school teacher.
You missed the point. There are thousands of teachers who don't coach. They have to work all day and many evenings. If they coach, they make a few thousand dollars more than other teachers. They don't make $100K to coach.

Ok. Did some research.
Found someone from the same state who has coached more and wasn't a flash in the pan. Runners on his list from 1986-2022. That's 36 years of great coaching.

Brosnan did that in 5 years and Walt did it in 40
Walt did it with a variety of individuals… Brosnan did it with 5/7 of them from super families
