Coaches voted to move to a preliminary round for indoor - mimicking outdoor. My gut says it never happens because the NCAA 1) has bigger issues right now and 2) won’t want to spend the money on it
Let me sum it up. Meetings are cut short once again. Noting actually gets done at these conventions. Grad assistance and volunteers think they are networking, but they are actually just drinking with a bunch of dudes. I rebooked my flight home and leaving tomorrow. Last time I came to this convention was two years ago in Orlando, Florida. At least there I could sneak out to enjoy the weather. I’m officially done with this waste of time they call a coaches convention.
Goodnight
You sound miserable. I love convention, but I don't get involved with the drinking stuff typically. I enjoy seeing old friends and coworkers of mine. As coaches you really don't have too many chances to see other coaching friends unless they're at the same meets as you.

You must be a fan boy if Dave Smith. It’s a complete waste of time. No point unless you can go on vacation
The convention is necessary and everything you enjoy about college meets is born from the convention. While you are sitting here typing that it is a waste of time, I will tell you what you have shared with us in those simple words, you are not actually involved, you do not know how to get involved, and you do not understand what general sessions are, what voting is, and what those meaningless proposals and elections truly mean to your well being. It is also a great time to meet up with friends you will only see at meets, in a non competitive setting. It is effective, and for all that have gripes or want some changes it is the place to campaign for those things. For example, heat and humidity indexes were pushed for to match altitude indexes, expect that to remain a hot topic. It is also the place we learn what the NCAA is working on and wants. Someone mentioned regionals for indoors, and then said it will never happen, well it will happen. And I will leave it at that.
Funny how weak track coaches think that these rules we work by, and the meets and schedules and changes seemingly happen outside of their view when they are happening right in front of them and if you are at the convention you literally vote for the things you claim are not happening. The summary is simple, get involved and join a committee. Stop whining from the sidelines

If you have a lot of friends you never get to see, want to learn some new stuff, and connect with other coaches, and be around people that actually can talk about the sport then its a great time.
If you want to get a new job, have a real say in any changes within the division, or waste the time drinking and partying, then its a waste.
It can be informative in changes and developments within the sport- and an opportunity to learn.
I think it’s pretty cool to have so many people passionate about the same crap in the same place. We get better by collaboration, not isolation.
