Brighton Baselayer. I've had mine for like 3 years- it's versatile, it very rarely gets washed (I think I've hand-washed it once per season), and doesn't stink.

Brighton base layer is the most bang for your buck item in terms of versatility and layering.
This is my answer.
+1 for Brighton base layer.

I got a $100 giftcard to Tracksmith as a gift. Don't currently have any Tracksmith items so not sure what is good - looking to get something that would be good for the winter in the NE. Any suggestions?
Don't mind adding a bit of my own cash if it is worth it.
The Fells waffle layer long sleeve
those who have the Brighton base layer - do you put it in the dryer? The instructions say not to, but who needs that kind of aggravation.
In general, do not put wool in the dryer. It will likely shrink.
Is it really such an inconvenience to lay it flat or drape it drape it over a chair?
I think the shoes are unreal.
Might get another pair for Christmas

the time and worry about looking through a giant load of wet running stuff just out of th washing machine and finding and picking out the one item that doesn't go in the dryer....yes that is an inconvenience. And a potential loss if you forget and shrink your shirt.
On sunny days, I prefer the "Solar Flare" singlet ($198) paired with the "UV Ultra Blocking" shorts ($142).
On overcast days, I go with the "Cloud Cover" singlet (also $198) paired with the "I've Looked At Clouds" 4 1/16" inseam shorts ($135, but on sale now for $133.50).
I also make sure that I leave the price tags on each piece of gear, so other runners will know that I'm serious about my running.
The people that constantly post about the price of Tracksmith gear are getting about as tiring as the endless teacher bashing on here.
I've collected a bunch of Tracksmith pieces over the last couple of years and can vouch for some of the things mentioned here. I'm a So Cal Native living in Ohio and the Tracksmith tops have kept me from completely freezing in the winter. For me, these are the best running pieces I own:
1. Franklin Fleece: Light weight, can workout in and keeps you warm. I've overheated layering this with the turtleneck in 30 degree temps. I've had one for a couple of years and it's held up well.
2. Brighton Base Layer/Fells Turtleneck: I've raced in the later in high 20/low 30 degree temps and felt fine. Brighton base layer is great for layering under in super cold temps
3. Strata Shorts: My go to marathoning short.
As for taking care of them. I hang dry all of my tracksmith stuff. Especially the wool pieces. I'll lay down the tops and hang the tights/shorts.
Brighton Base Layer is a winner.
I also like the Harrier long sleeve
Their Merino stuff is a winner in the winter
I also love their Session and Twilight shorts for spring through fall.
Big fan of the Session shorts, Strata tee, and Harrier tee. Need to grab some of the tights for this winter.
Session shorts and twilight split shorts are great. Don't love the cut of the twilight 5", though. I don't have any tops. Van Cortlandt shorts are garbage - worst fabric ever.
+ 1 for the Van Cortlandt singlet.
VC shorts are fine but could do with bigger pockets.
Reggie half tights are great for daily running - so comfortable. I have 3 pairs now; I bought two, then got another as a free replacement for a pair that had some missed stitching at a seam (that I fixed myself).
The Allston half tight has great storage for marathon racing, but seem to lack durability; see all the reports about the crotch blowing out. Mine were starting to go but I added more stitching there from the inside as a reinforcement. I am happy enough with these, but probably wouldn't recommend.
I am sure their full-length tights are great; they are well-reviewed but I only need tights for maybe 2-3 weeks a year in my climate so I haven't tried out Tracksmith's offerings yet. The Turnover is a full length version of the Reggie (or more likely the reverse is true) and would be on my list to buy if I needed a pair tomorrow.
The Harrier long sleeves are great cool- to cold-weather pieces. Great weight, cut, and stink-free for multiple wears between laundering. I have two and can get through a week or more of cold weather runs with just those two. The Brighton was nice, but I prefer the looser cut of the Harrier (it's not necessarily loose - but not as form fitting at the Brighton base layer).
I have a couple different tees but they are generally unremarkable. They look sharp, but they are not great for hotter weather so I wouldn't recommend them over other brands' tees at a half or even a third of the price.
In summary, the wool tops and the tights/half-tights are the real gems.
