I'm 65, fair-skinned blue-eyed female of mostly northern European ancestry, and I have no gray hairs that I'm aware of. My face has enough wrinkles to look 65 but my hair looks 35. Both of my parents went gray relatively late in life, but both had some gray by age 60.
Good for you, that’s amazing. I know some in their fifties with no visible grey (and no hair dye), but no one at 65.
The best way to get rid of the prominence of grey hairs (and also the male-baldness pattern) is to get rid of them, literally. I shave my hair with the shortest guard possible, sort of actually going completely bald. Once you muster up the confidence to do it, you'll be done worrying about this for good.
Caucasian female. I discovered my first gray hair at age 23 or so. However, the progression from there was very slow. I had my hair colored for the first time at age 39. Even at 39, roots weren't a huge problem. I could color my hair every 4 months or so and roots weren't really noticeable. Now at 43, coloring my hair is a pain in the neck. As a woman, going gray in your 40s isn't really typical as most women color their hair, and I feel I have to do the same. Not doing so makes me look much older. I think it's different for men.
For Caucasians, I think spotting your first gray hairs in your 20s is quite typical.
Caucasian male as well, I started getting enough gray hair around my sideburns to be noticable at age 17. Never minded it, it was a good conversation starter at that age when none of my peers were graying out. Turned into a cool salt and pepper by my late 20s and 30s and now at age 40 I'm more gray than brown (although it can really stand out or really be subtle depending on lighting wherever I am). Doesn't bother me at all and I've always looked and felt about my age regardless of hair color.
Answering the top question, I'm 54, and I have around 3 gray hairs. I haven't kept track, but I've had one of them for a while. So guessing maybe one new gray hair per year since around 51 or 52.
I've been plucking grey hair as an experiment. I've counted over 30 hairs out of maybe a few hundred that I've plucked (a couple of which I do every month or so) that were black at the root and white/gray at the tip. There is scientific evidence of such reversal possible (such as "long vacations" among other things).
Note that I didn't notice grey hairs until mid 30s after going through the stress of my mother's passing. I swear I plucked some of those same hairs every 2 months in my late 30s.
33 YO, caucasian male. Not one strand of gray hair. Why did people down vote the OP?
I really don't understand why there are so many sensitive girly men on this board. Must be a lot of guys with gray hair upset they look creepy hitting on younger girls.
I started showing greys in my head hair around 32-33. In my puubes at around 50-51;
I’m 40 and my pubes (and some facial whiskers) started graying years ago while I have a full head of non-gray hair, which is a miracle considering the very early extreme balding on my dad’s side. I wouldn’t look good bald so I’ll resort to a hair transplant/coloring if things start to go downhill before 50.
