He had a difficult life with drug addiction. Not sure if it factored into the drowning at all. RIP.
It could be drugs. Decent possibility of that. But he was in his mid-50s, and that's when things like fatal strokes and heart attacks start to happen. His friend Luke Perry (remember that dude?) died of a stroke a few years ago. No drugs there, just bad luck.
Yes, he could’ve had an increased risk of stroke or attack because of past drug use. Or it could be alcohol. Falling asleep is unlikely unless he hit his head in which case it probably would’ve been reported.

I’m a big fan of him so not saying this like he deserved it or anything like that but it wasn’t bad luck. Whatever happened must have been related to him destroying his body for years. He was taking 55 Vicodin a day at one point. From the article on the Ny Post website right now:
Perry went to rehab 15 times and had undergone 14 surgeries to try and mitigate the damage done to his stomach lining due to alcohol and opioid use. The actor claimed that he almost died in 2018 due to a gastrointestinal perforation. He subsequently spent months in the hospital. “The doctors told my family that I had a 2 percent chance to live,” Perry stated during a promotional interview for his book last year. “I was put on a thing called an ECMO machine, which does all the breathing for your heart and your lungs. And that’s called a Hail Mary. No one survives that.”

dying in a hot tub is a great way to go. Stop acting so sad. We should all be so lucky to die in a hot tub, but do we even have one like some Hollywood TV star?

Genuine sadness is all I can say. I remember binge watching Friends when I was 12. Chandler was my favorite character. Man, this almost seems like that one character he played on Growing Pains (Sandy) where right when you think you're getting better, he dies.
Hug your loved ones tonight Letsrun. RIP Matthew Perry.
