One of the SR guys penciled in Markezich at fifth or sixth, but I have the ND #1 finishing below a handful of FL, NCSt and NAU runners (and FlSt’s Chuchill as well) on Fri. Markezich’s past XC results suggest that she starts to taper and really sharpen up after Nuttycombe rather than before. There’s little reason to think she would rush her autumn build now, esp with much bigger fish to fry on the horizon: an individual podium push at Charlottesville; nicking Wayment’s NCAA steeple record; racing in Paris.
On a similar note, we may see an indication that Tuohy will polarize her efforts more so this year, burning white-hot only when it’s time to make national teams and collect championship trophies. However things unfold, I don’t expect either Tuohy or Markezich will worry about being “outclassed” this wkend.

Last year Nutty was very slow and then Tuohy torched the last 2k. This year Valby will be running (but with a team). My gut says Valby just runs the way she normally does and Tuohy goes with her this time, and then makes her move.

We'll see. No doubt she's top 10 quality, but I just don't think we'll see quite that level of racing from her this week. As long as she doesn't overextend herself and jeopardize anything down the road, I'm happy to be wrong slotting her in 12th place!

That makes sense and could easily happen, but Tuohy could also prioritize pulling her squad to a dominating win, rather than destroying Valby (which she likely intends to do once again in Nov). Of course, both could happen.

I tend to agree with what "FM" is saying.
here are the top 5 runners from UVA who will be at Nuttycombe:
Elise Stearns Chloe Scrimgeour Phoebe Anderson Emily Covert Amy Bunnage
Sprinkle in Valby who know doubt will run hard from the start, Tuohy, Chmiel, Kaylee Mitchell and Churchill or Ramsden or Maatoug or Mazza-Downie or Larkin or Jansen and that could be your top 10 (or top 15) Friday. Not that Markezich won't be there in a month, just not Friday. She certainly did not show she was ready to run fast 2 weeks ago.
Ben is back and with him, he brings two weeks of hot takes that were dearly missed. This week, Ben and Garrett dive into Ben's early-season hot takes before diving deep into Nuttycombe analysis which features clear favorites,...

You have a very liberal definition of "destroyed." Results say 3.2 seconds and their last two previous races were 1.7 and 1.9 seconds. Certainly not destroyed.
Destroyed is what happened top Tuohy at NCAAs. Ramsden beat her by more time in a 1500 than Tuohy beat Valby in a 6K. And, of course, half of the field also beat her.
Statements like these are why I stopped rooting for Tuohy to win about two years ago and started actually rooting for her to lose about a year ago. I was smiling ear to ear in June.

I agree that "destroyed" is a strong word, but i mean Tuohy and Valby were dead even with ~400 to go and Valby lost by more than 3 seconds. That gap happens from the bell in a track race people would be saying it was dominant. I don't care what the times were everyone watching the race could tell that Valby had no chance the second she was caught. It's the same feeling I got watching Ky Robinson in the 5k last outdoors. He bided his time and let others lead and make moves and push the pace but once he made his move you could tell it was over the second he got to the front.
So maybe destroyed is the wrong word, but neither of those 2 races felt close at all as they approached the line.

it's just sports, my dude.
Sophie O Sullivan tanked at NCAAs too - dead last - and just ran 4:02 and 8:44. It happens.

Is it certain she’s running tho? Could see her waiting to debut til later. Hopefully not, would love a Valby/Tuohy showdown

My prediction (and I hope I'm right): Ben Crawford & his New Generation d-bags won't show up to the meet.
