Panorama Farms is an excellent venue. Ran on it last year. Fair course. It's tough. Has some nice rollers and challenging surface, more true XC than say Tallahassee so the race could be blown open by some really strong runners this early in the season.
I have a feeling Sprout will run because he's probably itching for a good time, and how did he have an extended track season past USA nationals?
Ky Robinson has less to prove, but they didn't bring along their number 3-5 runner Thomas Boyden, they might want him in just for team scoring. IIRC, your determination over whether you get into nationals has to do with how many wins you get at invitations, and Stanford is so thin this year, I'm not even sure they're guaranteed.
I also wouldn't sleep on Ezekiel Rop of Iowa State or Nicholas Scudder to be in the top 5.
I think Birnbeaum and Burns shouldn't be redshirted because Oregon has a chance to podium this year if they use all their talent.
Also, noticing BYU doesn't have a full squad. Kenneth Rooks and one of the Thompson twins are out
really not sure what the fuss is about seems perfectly fine. if you want to see what a terrible championship course looks like check out the usc upstate course, its hosting the southeast regional this year. gonna be a sh*tshow
Weird to see people resting this course and not a later invitational. You'd think all contending runners would want to get experience on the National course rather than potentially win like Nuttycombe or something. It's not like them spamming the Stillwater or Kentucky courses; it's a new course to almost all the big schools.
All I know is there were about 100 runners on the first row of the start line for ACC Championships last year which seemed to nearly fill the area. Not sure how much it could be widened without overlapping the 2K split area.

Perhaps they can use 2k area at start and then shuffle stuff around to be ready for the split. VIN well aware that start, parking, hotels are an issue, so am sure there will be a plan. The course itself is awesome.

Pre nationals are on the same course on October 14. Perhaps some teams that are sitting this out will be there then,

I have found the following scheduled for Pre Nationals Arkansas BYU High Point Michigan Minnesota Oregon Utah Valley Virginia Washington State
I think Arkansas and Oregon can be top 5 teams this year: They got the S Alabama transfer with Patrick Kiprop and easily another 4 guys can round out the squad: Shearer, Myles Richter, Lexington Hilton, and that German miler who has a decent 5 K time.
Oregon has a bunch of transfers, 2 insane freshmen and Harrison Reinhardt is probably running in addition to a team that last year qualified for nationals when they were in a rebuilding phase, so that should be good.
What's the incentive for BYU and Michigan to fly all the way across the country again?

BYU men are at Virginia this week. They are scheduled to run Nuttycombe not Pre-Nats.
BYU women are at Oregon this week. They are scheduled to run Pre-Nats.

Nico Young posted on Threads he's off to Charlottesville. Just because he (and Aaron las Herras) aren't running in the actual race doesn't mean they won't run the course multiple times and get a feel for it.
unless they're injured I suspect every low stick who doesn't run Saturday (Kenneth Rooks, Casey Clinger, Natalie Cook, Starliper, etc.) will still travel with their team and run the course.
Rules allow 10 runners/team, extras assigned to the open/mixed 5k.
Stanford has entered Sprout and Robinson but doubt they will compete due to their extended track seasons . . . Nuttycombe more likely their opener.
Noticed that Wake Forest picked up Hunter Jones as well as Rocky Hansen . . . thought I recall Jones going to Michigan State.
Not sure of this . . . but Aussie prodigy Amy Bunnage of Stanford I believe has the fastest 5k track time at 15:21 . . . and women are running the 5k course . . .
Of all the great frosh talent in this field, Ty Gorze/WA is my pick as the best . . . highest mileage guy of this group back in hs . . . thus believe he will adapt the quickest to the 8k/10k distance . . . although Leo Young/Stanford's 16th place finish at U20 World X back in February on a monster 8k course in hot weather suggests he may be ready to challenge Gorze and even contend for the win . . .

Davin Thompson is injured. Not sure how serious it is, but he's been cross training for a couple weeks.
Honestly Oregon has lots of insane freshmen. Burns and Birnbaum need no introduction, but in addition Archie Noakes from Australia ran 13:50 and was 17th at world junior XC, right behind Leo Young. Also Dan Watcke, a 47s 400m and 1:47 800m who got top 30 at NXN, as well as Tayson Echohawk who ran 4:01 for the full mile. Throw in a 1:49 guy and a 4:04 guy and B&B are not at all guarantied to be Oregon's top frosh.
