guy was such a flash in the pan literally nobody mentions his name anymore even though he won a world gold indoors and made the 2016 team. Into thin air.
He ran on a torn achilles to make the team in 2016, which is why he became such a flash in the pan.
according to his instagram, on oct 22nd 2022 Clayton's wife had a baby at 27 weeks and spent 65 days in the NICU for 10-12 hrs per day after having just moved into their first home 3 weeks prior. can imagine that family has rightly been more of a focus for him/them than it perhaps has for other athletes. hope he has some more good seasons ahead

Hoppel trains like a miler. I’ve heard of him doing workouts like 12x400m in 65-70 off of short rest which is similar to what I do, I think that workout helps you build a lot of that high end aerobic strength you can even feel in races like 600m or 800m.
Thats more of 800m aerobic training than miler-training. You have all types, but for a miler with at his level that speed at 400m w/low rest is treshold and the volume should be 20-25x400m for it to actually be miler training. Its not really anything special for an 800m runner.
Both Hoppel and Murphy should move up to the 15. Start doing one day a week of double T. Bump the mileage in the 75-80+ range.
Dont need that slow approac. Im telling you, double t is way more easy on your body than 800m training, and with todays shoes its a breeze. I've done both.
Should Clayton Murphy make some significant changes in his training?
Not at all. The answer is more flair. Sure, he’s already got the one arm sleeve, sunglasses, and requisite tattoo; but adding a headband or even gloves wouldn’t be a bad idea.
regardless of the family issues. I do think he should get a new coach.
watching some of those old training videos on his YouTube, those workouts were not it. Dude just isn’t training him to run fast at all. But he has his one Olympic medal and they just got a house so I doubt he’s going anywhere. Wish him the best. Was one of my favorites
