I actually disagree here. In races mile and below this kind of heat doesn’t really impact performance and maybe even helps a little bit as long as it’s not unreasonably hot. I remember when I ran my 1500m PB it was 80 degrees and full sun so likely 90+ on the track. Easier to warm up, get your heart rate up before the start, etc. On the flip side I have struggled to run as fast in 1500m races held at night when temps are in the 60s despite being in better shape.
Probably not under 3:25, the 1500 will be the hardest record for Jakob. Beacuse its a really really strong record and Jakobs best distance would probably be everything from 2k to 5k. And maybe also 10k. He focuses on the 1500m because that is a prestige distance for him (and is also considered to be that in general)
Jakob said he couldn't see the lights very well in the glare of midday, buttressing the OP for a completely different reason. He also said he felt the wind and lack of pacer after 900.
No - we aren't seeing anything under 3.25 from Jakob - it will still be very tough for him to break 3.26. It's been analyzed to death here recently but this record is well within his wheelhouse and no matter what any scoring tables say, is not as hard as the 1500m. El G was 3.28.2 for the record, Jakob today 3.28 high with a comparable close. It's not inconceivable to imagine 3.28.0 from him en route and the strength to finish it off.
I think having Nuguse on his heels at least took away part of it. You could almost see him registering that he was close, and thus not wanting to risk fading out.
Exactly my thought too....he turned his head like 4-5 times the last lap...

Running in the heat is always harder.
no. It's depends on the distance. It's easier for sprints. Harder for 3000+. In between for 800-1500 where you want something in the 70-85 range. Under 70 starts to be problematic for middles distances. So it was good today.

Yeah I think we are all in agreement - you aren't wrong - it was good conditions out there. But when you are talking about WR's and what is literally the all-time pinnacle performance over a distance for humans as we know them - it helps to have excellent conditions. It's very plausible it was a large contributing factor to the difference between an all-time great run and the all-time greatest run.
Even within your range, 70 is more optimal than 85 - we agree on this right?
Oh well, guess he'll just have to cling to his outdoor WRs in distances nobody cares about. 🥱
Honest question, do you have a mental breakdown right now? You are posting this everywhere. Being extremely close to take down a legendary WR is not the burn you think it is. He can cling to his third fastest mile of all time.
"Everywhere" = here and the official meet thread?
"Mental breakdown" = a couple of comments that took a few seconds to type?
It's really not that serious and I don't genuinely care who has the record. I just like seeing him fail. 😊

Mmm I think 75-80 is the best on average. Then everybody is different and the perception of heat differs from someone to another. We are not talking about a marathon or even a 5K. Wind is a usually a much bigger factor than temperature for middle distances. Here I would say heat was negligible for a mile.
