Best track meet I have ever been to and I have been to a lot! Amazing venue!!! My first time since the new Hayward. Nosebleed seats we expected to be so so but they were awesome. Plenty of people despite not being full. So say what you will. Cannot wait until tomorrow. Enjoy your negativithy while we enjoy the meet!

Finally, someone who was actually at the meet!! These knuckleheads love misery and the company they keep! Yet they keep having meets in Eugene and these dipsticks dont attend and complain from afar as if they know something.
It's so hard to take seriously. That Nike have broken out special singlets that are... the exact same as their normal singlets but slightly off-shade UofO colours is the cherry on top for making this feel like it's a US High School championship event sponsored by Nike, not one of the pinnacles of professional track and field.
I also did not like the green and yellow Nike kits. But Nike owns their athlete pawns and they must oblige.
Seems like a waste of resources to produce new kits for one meet. Similar to how the Uof O football team gets new different plastic uniforms for one game?
That is the powerful marketing Nike, and I wonder if we will see the revolutionary Nike? Will we see rainbow kits for meets in Qatar or China?
I was going to go, but realized juggling two babies was too much. Despite advertising being "family friendly," I couldn't get any clarification on whether strollers were allowed (UO site says yes, Pre Classic T&Cs say no) or any advice on finding the most accessible seating. Call me entitled, but it was just easier to watch from home, which is kind of sad considering I live in the Portland area and always go to Pre. And if you're wondering where dad is, he is working for LetsRun, so he is excused.
I was at the meet and the atmosphere was great. Biggest downfall of Hayward is just the location. Put this thing in Portland and it’s a different story in my opinion.
I’m not in marketing, but my guess is Europe will always have more fan attendance in track because, for the most part, there’s only 1 feature sport competing for their ticket money on a consistent basis (soccer). I don’t think it has much to do with their actual interest in the sport.
Crowds looked thick to me. Who else wants to put on a dL meet in the US? Go ahead and try.....
This. Letsrun loves to act like it’s a Eugene problem. It’s a U.S. problem. We are a website of track nerds with an inflated view of our sports popularity. ESPN is more excited about Deion Sanders’ star studded team getting ready to beat up on a bunch of nobodies at Colorado State than even mentioning the American Record in the mile was just demolished.
It's the DL final ?! Madness. Imagine if this had been in London... or anywhere more appropriate...
I wrote a while ago I just can't defend Eugene anymore. Today validated it. It's even amazing so many of the athletes showed up to run given how long the season was, but the first thing I see on the telecast is the completely empty seating around that final curve just before the home straight. They also did a great job coloring the seats the way they did make it appear like there are people there when there isn't.
I get the tickets a day before the meet might have been dramatically reduced in price, but when you go on there for the first time a fortnight out (you know, when you want to plan sh-t) and they are going for $95-135 just for half decent seats, it's a bit of a killer.
Either way, there is simply no way that a meet this late in the season should be outside of Europe. Period.

The only thing worse than empty stands is ..... empty stands + commentators who constantly make overt statements about how full the stands are and how excited the crowd is. Nothing makes the sport look more JV than someone saying on a tv broadcast "look at our HUGE SELLOUT crowd they are SO excited"
Paul Swanshart talking about a sellout crowd while the camera pans across stands that are ~50% fulll is the pinnacle of douchecasting.

Where were you looking to see tickets at that price? I got $25 tickets 5 rows up from the track, for both days. Bought them a week ago and hadn’t seen any fluctuation over the past month of looking.
