Wejo, I don't know you, but I defy ANYBODY to call a guy a "pussy" when he does the training you do and runs 10k in 28:54. That's an awesome accomplishment, and so is the win!!! At those levels, you win them any way you can, and following an irrational rabbit 20-40 yards back is called "intelligent" and not "wimpy".
This is coming from a guy with a 35:48 lifetime best......and I'm proud of it!!!

Well, America doesn't technically HAVE Bairu, as he's Canadian.
I'm glad Wejo doesn't care that people are calling him a pussy. Can't we admire the efforts of both the Wisconsin runner and Wejo? It doesn't matter what the meet is- leading a race takes balls, but so does putting on a huge kick to win the race.
Every good runner has their critics, but in my experience, the critics never beat the target of their criticism. Why would anyone be bitter about someone they consider slow?
This debate brings to mind the semi-famous quote from Teddy Roosevelt:

I'm sure Wejo wanted to run 28:40, even 27:40, but wasn't quite ready at this time. This was his first race since Chicago, really. First track race in 2 years. If you read his pre-race comments, he was only able to run 9:16 for 2M the week before. He looked to be laboring mid-race, and the result was very gutsy. I'm sure the win is nice, but he's happy to have a good race and looking forward to the rest of the season.
Maybe you shouldn't be such an asshole, agreed. That, or actually base your thoughts on reality.

Good grief. This is what I hate about this message board. How is someone going to criticize a guy who just ran a 28:54 and hasn't raced on the track in years?? I mean even if he raced every week, its still a 28:54 which is a great time by anyones standards. I don't care how fast you run, even if you are Geb, you still have to respect that time on any level. With that amount of training he should be able to run a 28:20. I heard that somewhere around 6km bairu was going at 28:10 pace. It is to bad that he couldn't hold on to that.

Don't know where you heard that. He went through 5k probably at 14:26.
And to the guy who said I don't have the talent to run 28:00. I ran 28:10 2 years ago. So unless you assume that was the perfect day, and I will never improve I don't see how you can state that so confidently.
