A couple interesting results in 2 early meets. In Stanford's opener (which comes before their off-site camp and late academic start), frosh Sofia Kennedy ran up front w/ Riley Stewart, and vet Grace Connelly just behind. The stars did not run. If folks stay healthy and Stewart, Kennedy, Connelly are 4,5 and 6 that's a good sign for the Cardinal.
At CU Covert, xfer Dishon, frosh Baloga and xfer Doucette came in T1 w/ Valenti & Cook being the chase pack. This shows Cook is healthy, but not yet fit. Valenti may be a nice surprise and both Baloga and Doucette can make year 1 impact. Stars Hertenstien, Baran and frosh Riggs didn't run.
The 'unattached' runners is normal Wetmore. Rather than waste a year of eligibility, he'll wait til Nuttycombe or even pac to decide whose eligibility to burn.
Looks to me like Cook has a long way to go still. Winning time for the 5.3k course was 18.53, with Cover, frosh Baloga up there. Cook ran 19.17, 10 seconds back from Valenti. She was only the 6th CU runner in (and 11th overall), despite the whole CU team not running. Doesn’t look like she’s on the traveling team this year unless she improves dramatically over the next 8 weeks or so.
I wouldn't overthink the results. it's the first race of the year. like a spring training game with strict pitch counts, I'm sure Cook was instructed to run a certain pace and not deviate.

I am sure she will work her way back and be in their top 5.
Although, Wetmore called out the runners in the 'back half' of the lineup. Not sure if he was including Cook with those comments.

Maybe. Hope she does well moving forwards, but she can always redshirt to give herself some more time. She’s a real talent finishing top 10 at NCAAs as a true frosh last year.
NAU clocked in with their opener. Like others stars didn't all run, but those who did looked promising. Smee, Stearns and surprise Upshaw finished T1. Chase pack was frosh Stutzman, Moore and Mitchell. Without stars it's a promising healthy start for the group.

By the looks of it on IG pretty much the whole NC St team including all the top runners did some sort of climbing outing so one would think not much in the way of injuries at this point.

Nobody in the Top 12 runners at NC State made the trip to Elon. Yep, big team building event at a ropes course outdoors today. I don’t expect we’ll see much of #1-4 from NC State at the Adidas event either, maybe a fun run effort from a couple. A few will likely knock some rust off at Joe Plane Invitational at Notre Dame before things get real at Nuttycombe.

Curious to see how NCst fares at Nuttycombe without Tuohy
Given Cook's current status I would put NC ST, CO, FL, NAU pretty even in a Nationals field if NC ST has no Tuohy - but has everybody else. Stanford might be close too if their top 3 are on. At Nuttycombe w/o OSU, BYU, AR, VA, etc FL might benefit the most given where their 5th might be in the field (probably the weakest 5th of these 4 teams). No Tuohy would cost NC St ~60 points in a nationals field I'd think, so much of that in the Nuttycombe field.

I bet she runs at Nuttycombe, even if it's a "knock the rust off" type run. Wouldn't you think most runners would want to run at least one race before their conference championship? Also, I think one of the team goals would be to try to win Nuttycombe again.
If Tuohy didn't run until ACCs, that would only be running 3 races for the entire season. That seems a little light. Make it at least 4 races for the season, like Chmiel did last year.
