You know in sports there are some teams you just actively want to cheer against and in US track it is TME. What an unlikeable group of Instagram narcissists.
Instagram is how runners promote themselves and attract sponsors. good luck trying to earn a living in the sport without an Instagram account unless you’re at the very very pointy end…and even then you’d be sacrificing income opportunities.
Sure they do some cringeworthy stuff, but to cheer against them is to cheer against the sport. If more groups were as dedicated to media and fan engagement as they are the sport would be in a much better place. They've managed to create a brand that somewhat supports a whole group and gets that group a lot of recognition with pretty limited true talent.
Like it or not we need pro runners (including the wannabe "pros") to step up the social media game, even if that means seeing the occasional narcissistic or cringy miss. The hobby jogger influencers are way ahead of the marketing in this aspect and honestly many of them would probably provide better ROI for companies than a typical contract pro.
Those marketing dollars are going to go wherever they can be best put to use, and I'd much rather have more TME's than Matt Choi's.

Completely agree. Would rather have actual fast runners clogging up my Instagram algorithm that the current hacks suggesting how to structure a training program off 10km a week.
Whether you think it's the shoes or that argument makes you want to blow your brains out, the fact is that Drew has only improved by about 1 second in 6 years....since he was about 19 years old.
What boggles my mind is that he's still messing with the 1500 so much when he showed so much potential in the 5000.
The center of TME is Drew and, to a lesser extent, Parsons. TME will continue as long as they stay on. I would have quit tinman long ago if I were these guys though, so I'm not surprised at all that people are leaving.
I’ve literally never heard of any of the people leaving

Eh, somewhere between the Drew Hunter posts about “the workout and the ‘fit and the playlist” and their video series about the Reed’s build up to Chicago where he spiked the football after running 2:14 on a day when another American ran 2:06, it stopped being about actually competing in races and more of a pseudo lifestyle brand thing. Maybe the reality is that is where the money is for these guys but it has made the sport more insufferable.

In defense of TME, they did just put on a running camp without trying to bang any high schoolers

you don't get it. Tinman Elite are GRIFTERS.
They sell crappy training plans (that they stole from their former coach) to high schoolers. They sell overpriced clothes with an ugly logo to high schoolers.
They are slower than dozens of collegiate athletes. They aren't even trying to make a world championship team - I'm sorry but hiring Drew's mom was an insult to all of their fans. they had a chance to hire a legit coach and they picked the cheapest, least qualified option.
Their goal is to sell shirts and training plans. running fast is one of their lowest priorities.
I am by no means a running guru but I have absolutely heard of all of the people leaving, just by following the major domestic track meets. They are very active in the US side of the sport and it’s silly to pretend otherwise. Overpriced ugly logo clothes? That’s OK, people can buy if they want. Don’t spend your money on it if you don’t want to.
I have to say only some of the LRC posters could turn an extremely refreshing take from a running team (saying goodbye to their runners without a hint of negativity) and find a way to complain.
we all know the sport is far from perfect. But why give so much hate to people that are somewhere inbetween amateur and elite who are just trying to make a living within the sport? Would we all rather have nobody giving regular content, insight into daily lives of people grinding their a** off, or pretending that a runner was never on their team to begin with once they leave the group?
Tinman is easy to hate on because they put themselves out there. Just like high school bullies will always hate on kids being themselves at school. Try to enjoy life a little more and if you hate what Tinman elite is doing so much, get out there and do it better :)

I don't agree with this at all. I've loved this sport for fifty years, and I am able to continue to do so despite the many whiny, entitled, narcissistic, unemployed or underemployed "influencers" who currently seem to overwhelm the publicity of this sport at a certain modest level of achievement. And appropriating the pseudonym of their fired founder was, at the very least, extremely bad manners that can reasonably cause one to cheer against them without "cheering against the sport."

To use your intransitive neologism, people don't generally "hate on" others merely because those others "put themselves out there" or "be themselves." People "hate on" those whom they find hateful, regardless of whether they're just "being themselves." There are actually a lot of people who come across as likable while "being themselves."

Outside of Drew and (barely) Parsons there's nothing near world class talent on that team, so yeah it's not about the running at that level. Pseudo lifestyle brand thing is currently one of the few ways a decent but not world class runner has to monetize themselves. I'm not saying everyone should act exactly like TME, I'm saying more should put that level of effort into personal media to further develop that as an avenue for brand dollars to flow to athletes.
The current contract and prize money system in our sport doesn't really properly support anyone that isn't truly world class, we can't build a proper sport around that so we need to appreciate every possible way to bring more money into fast running.
