I just read that the average Kenyan taxi driver earns $4000 a year. Any sub 1:45 Kenyan is guaranteed to be signed by a management agency and earn more than that before even sponsorship, as well as getting to spend the summer in Europe. Any kid with 1:45 talent would get noticed and signed up. Half the talent scouts in the world are hanging about Kenyan schools hoping to groom a talent and feed them the best supplements.
Great run from Laros, but I wasn't exactly surprised since he's run 1:44/3:32 already. 51.35 is a fantastic split though, especially since he could've gone faster. The sky is the limit for this kid. He could be a medal threat as soon as next year if he can improve by a couple seconds from age 18 to 19.
Also, I was really impressed with the kid who came 2nd. Pushed the pace from 800m out to try and drop Laros, didn't manage that, but still crushed everyone else in the field. He looks tiny, so may have a lot of room for development. Still dropped ~1:50 last 800.

Dude wouldn't even start his decade of freshman eligibility at byu for another seven years.
Did you make that up all by yourself? You're so clever!
I know that I am clever, but I can't take credit for this one. Several sources for this: "zoobies," "he's a grandpa," "the 27 preteen wives of Joseph Smith," "they name their kids Dallin and LaVerkin," "sister wives," and the byu track website roster.
Lol. There is no 18 year old Kenyan that can beat him. Are you stuck in 2008?
As a matter of fact, there are only 3 Kenyan that can beat him...and that would not be an easy task for them.
There's probably a load of Kenyans we've never heard of who could beat this kid if they trained. The problem is that they can only earn a living as a taxi driver. Heck, I'd bet you there are 100 sub-1:45 Kenyan taxi drivers.
For your sake I hope you stay away from Las Vegas.
BYU guys only get 4 years of eligibility and humans peak physically around age 22 according to multiple studies.
So they come off two years of rest and recovery vacation, one year of redshirt, one year of medical redshirt and begin their 4 years of freshman eligibility at their physical peak. Sounds about right.
