His track starts are UNREAL. That start on the football field will be LETHAL. Good luck to any defenders because you are going to get burned from hike..

Hey, i make gaming videos now, i would really appreciate it if you check out a video for just 2 seconds https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qrMm3nMeTi0&t=1sWatch...
A top 25 all time 100m dash guy giving up T&F, not for N.F.L. but college football? Why can't he do both? I know Am. football college rosters are much smaller than 50 years ago. Football coaches will not let guys play football AND participate in T&F as much today. Today, a guy has to choose. Come spring football practice, M W will hate this decision.
He can do both. He just won't be at track practice until indoor season. I imagine he won't be very sharp for the 60m indoors, but will rapidly come into form during outdoors.
He didn't switch to football, he joined the football team this fall to see if he could become a viable wide receiver. He is still going to sprint for Oregon after the football season is over, just consider this a way for him to stay in shape and try something different for a little bit. This is no Devon Allen situation.
Williams hasn't played football since his freshman year in high school, when he was on the JV team. He's going to play zero role for Oregon Football this fall.
The coaches should be fired if he plays "zero role" for the football team this fall. With his speed, you absolutely have to put him in for a few snaps. Just do a reverse. Deep ball.
Even money, Ill bet you up to $5,000 right now that he plays for Oregon in football this fall.
We can start a thread. Put the money into a third party venmo account that someone else controls.
He'll have plenty of opportunities during practices to show what he’s got.
Just showing up and sprinting fast does not make one a great football player. Unless you believe U of O will give the young man the Reggie Bush treatment, switching to football (bag of cash, luxury condo and a new expensive German auto), college football doesn't pay the rent.
Devon Allen is proof that you can secure 6 figure yearly salary if you simply run very fast and have some experience catching the ball.
He's only on a practice squad roster and yet his salary would be in the upper class of all track and field runners. Imagine if you are good enough to make a full roster, generational wealth instantly.
And if it doesn't work out and you can't get on an NFL roster for a year or two, you're still in your early 20's and can just resume track and field.
Devon Allen was a 4 star high school recruit at WR. He’s a guy who was both a WR and a sprinter, not one over the other. He only dropped football late in college (junior or senior year) because of injuries.
that said, any time a guy as fast as Williams and has a football build gives it a try it’s intriguing.
They’re trying to get football team to cover his scholarship
Unless NCAA rules have changed since I left coaching, as soon as an athlete on a non-football scholarship plays in a football game, their scholarship converts to a football scholarship.
This rule was put in place to prevent adding extra scholarship players (over the limit) by saying that they are countable for other sports. In the end, unless a non-football scholarship athlete is going to contribute immediately AND the football program has an extra (unused) scholarship, most FB coaches will never put the kid on the field in a game.
Very unlikely scenario but very possible given the changing landscape of college sports (NIL influences).

Unless you are closely associated with U of O athletic director or a football coach at U of O, you do not know if he can do both. Did you read my post? College football teams used to have 100 plus rosters. College football coaches do not like to share talent anymore. Most D1 or D2 college programs will not allow football players to skip spring football practice today. College football coaches are not going to allow 30 guys to skip spring football practice today to participate in T&F.

I inferred from the news article that he was likely going to do both as the football coach mentioned he had a long T&F career ahead of them.

Devon Allen literally did both fairly recently at Oregon. So ya he can do both. Will he do both is a different question, if he's not good enough to contribute on the football team he won't be doing both. But if the question is can he play football and run track if good enough, the answer is yes.
This guy is no football player and was overweight all track season last year. If he dedicated himself to being a professional track athlete ( i.e. Lyles, like this is my job, ) he could be one of the best 100 meter runners on the planet. IMHO
If it was easy pretty much he every D1 sprinter would step out for football....You gotta catch the ball and not fumble when you get hit..Purdue got Marcellus Moore a couple of years ago...The fastest prep sprinter...A dud on the football field and transferred...A to B speed is great but you need A to B to C...And that's if you got hands to catch the ball
