Hi, last week D Hagga and some other masters gave me input on where I {62 male} I was in regards to possibly running a sub 20 5k and it was a "no"Last weeks first track session in a year and it was 6:20 6:45 7:00This morning...
2) I'm not intreset to it. I came here mainly for learning. And my English is not good, reading long text is difficult task for me. And writting in English is more difficult for me. So I can't writing long text now to explain something in details.
Day 4, June 22, ‘23 … I repeated the threshold/5k-pace(?) 8x400m workout performed on Day 1. 400m AvgRep Pace….AvgHR/MaxHR……….Rest 6:42/mi……….….158/163bpm……..…...1:47 7:16/mi………….…153/161…………..…….1:52 7:12/mi………….…154/164…………………1:56 7:06/mi…………...156/163…………………2:00 7:30/mi…………...158/165…………………2:16 7:08/mi……….…..157/167………………….2:13 7:07/mi………….…160/167…………………2:20 7:02/mi………….…160/169………………...end

That was a hot day; nonetheless, the two recent 400m workouts indicate a significantly higher level of fitness than 46 days ago.
… in short intervals training, heart rate is meaningless.
With regard to training, the above statement of yours has to be one of the most ignorant put forth on this board in a long time (and that’s saying something.)
Have you never heard of Woldemar Gerschler, the grandfather of interval training?!? His method was based upon Heart Rate evaluation/modulation in the conduction of relatively short interval/reps. And contrary to a modern research paper looking at 10-15 subjects, he tested and trained hundreds, if not thousands.
Really now, your ‘artificial intelligence’ in this sphere is quite limited to be unaware of these facts.
Day 51, Aug 8, 2023, at midnight. ‘Slower-methodical’ 9xHill-repeats. Total distance and time covered in 9xHill-repeats (both up and down hill) was 3.33miles, in 37:29. The High Heart Rate Alert did not go off before reaching top of hill on all reps. Shoe: NB flats. Post-workout Garmin 5k estimate: 20:19*.
Hey zhuetles, my kind-of heavy-handed retort (on Gerschler) was kind-of-tongue-in-cheek (not sure you understand that English idiom, but…), so hopefully, no hard feelings (noticed your last post was removed).
I’ve read and reread Gordon Pirie’s account (in his book found online) of Gerschler’s training many times. Gerschler had Pirie cap his reps at 180bpm, which for an elite 20-something, was probably around 90% HRmax.
