She is retired and irrelevant in the sport. The specific drug is a steroid masking agent.
Exactly.
Imagine spending years of time and energy on something like sport, getting caught cheating twice, and then having absolutely no credibility that anything you ever did in your career was legit.
So desperate. What a waste.
There should be public ceremonies at the end of the Olympics held in the stadium to publicly discredit all athletes who have cheated. Mandatory attendance.
Hammer thrower Gwendolyn Berry has been banned for 16 months by the United States Anti-Doping Agency for testing positive for a banned substance. The suspension means the 34-year-old American will miss this month's World Athletics Championships in Budapest. Berry's violation resulted from her use of a topical medication - a cream used to treat pain in a specific part of the body - that contained spironolactone. She has a prescription for the drug but failed to get an exemption to use it. It is the second doping ban within a 10-year period for Berry, who was a member of the United States' 2016 and 2020 Olympic teams. She was also suspended in 2016 for three months after using an inhaler containing the banned substance vilanterol trifenatate. Her ban means she will also miss the 2024 Paris Olympics, which begin next July.
She's a disgrace and was embarrassment to the sport and is now 100% irrelevant. A complete waste of a career. Once a cheater ALWAYS a cheater.
She hasn't competed since May 2022. I bet the retirement announcement will come within a week (kinda like a few other athletes who announced retirements this past winter who had positive test results)

It says right in the article. She has a prescription and was using it for pain treatment (could be completely unrelated to training too, such as some other chronic pain condition). But she failed to report the prescription and thus gets a punishment. Unfortunately this stuff is really messed up.
