Time is not the only factor when it comes to contracts money (not even talking about social media presence & marketing, purely countries & market size)
Impossible to compare $$ with american athletes, which are part of the biggest running & T&F market in the world, with international influence on top (see how many of us foreigners are actually regulars on Letsrun.com... a US website..)
It works the same way in every business. You get $$ based on the potential returns.
US athletes are most likely the highest paid in the world in average for a given performance level, based on potential ROI for companies in the country. Exceptions at the very top when athletes are becoming global figures resonating outside their countries.
Regular US posters here need to understand that what a B/C level athlete gets in the US is most likely what a A level athlete get in most other countries (where T&F is still well developed and popular).
And in reverse, at this same B/C level performance, in most countries athletes are full amateurs working full time jobs.
So no way we should look at a 3'31-3'32 AUS athlete and assume he'll get the same as a 3'31-3'32 US athlete (only considering the performance aspects).
Also, no way a 3'37 - 3'39 in any other country is getting a pro contract (little chances) and if so, far from the $$ amount a US runner would, even as a young with potential with an NCAA tittle....
Some nuances could be made for top foreigners training & racing in the US after an NCAA career and therefore resonating in the US market / audience.
But even then... compare what happens when Yared Nguse runs 3'29 & NR in terms of resonnance in the US T&F community (Let's Run Front page, immense threads, PR reviews...) and when Ollie Hoare runs 3'29 & NR
And understandably so, actually.. I'm not knocking on it, it makes sense to me.
Also for the tape on the Wisconsin Logo, WA has regulation on the size of any logo for some A-Level competitions, regardless of what it says. If it's bigger, organizers have to tape it
5.2 Athlete Kit, including tops, vests and shorts 5.2.1 Competition tops (vests, t-shirts etc.) The following maximum exposure is permitted: - 1 x manufacturer name/Logo - 40cm², max height 5cm; - 2 x Athlete Sponsor name/Logo (it must be two different Athlete Sponsors) - 40cm², max height 5cm;
The dude just ran well over 3 seconds faster than the fastest 1500m in the NCAA this year. You don’t think he’ll garner a six-figure pro contract?
With Dylan Jacobs getting $250k, Spencer can now command six figures as well and perhaps he will sign with ON to join Ollie.
Read the long post a couple above this one. Spencer is not getting a six figure contract from a one-off 3:31 where he finished at the back of the pack. He’s not American and isn’t an NCAA champ. Ritz won’t let another Australian miler into the group. He likes to have one athlete per country per event. The situation with Josette and Alicia only solidified this.
He would need to back up that performance before people start offering him big contracts. Harald Hudak ran 3:31.96 in 1980 to become the third fastest in history behind Ovett and Thomas Wessinghage in a race in which all three broke the previous record. His previous best was 3:36. He never did anything before or after that came anywhere close to that performance.
Never heard of the guy but now he is up with all-time Americans like Leo Manzano, Cole Hocker, Jim Spivey and Alan Webb.
He just ran a PB faster than Cooper Teare’s. There has to be an interesting story here, as to what training, or other, he attributes to running 6 seconds faster than what he ran in NCAA outdoor this spring.
Probably got in touch with the doctor that has the new good treatments everyone is using.

Hold on, WHAT?! If Dylan Jacobs is getting $250k, then every single track and field athlete in the world is underpaid lol. A contract that size is typically reserved for prodigious talents that are virtual locks for every single World and Olympic team and consistently being competitive in the finals...this guy has two unimpressive NCAA titles, and most recently capped his career 14th at NCAAs in his only event he contested. Looking at his career, market value would only put him at around $70k a year, and that's almost purely off of the fact that he ran at name brand schools and his coach and friends probably have solid connections.

Why would they let a nobody in on the secret? Isn’t this just proof that the guys at running fast clean now? Better shoes and better training and all?
We've seen NCAA athletes drop a lot of time at Monaco and other European races before. In the past, no NCAA runners ever broke 3:35 in season but a number ran well under that in Europe, Lagat, Morceli, Wheating, and others. Wheating's 3:30 in Monaco represented a bigger drop, from 3:38, but he had closed the 3:38 in 25 seconds and won a number of NCAA titles, so more was expected and more was delivered (1:44 in Paris earlier), but unfortunately he never got back to that level again.
