He is one to watch I think because his dad, Tim, the 1985 NCAA xc champ, had 3:34 speed in him. I think if Olin can bring down his 3:56.6 mile speed from January 2022 (approximately a 3:39.1 1500) to 3:33-3:34 he can contend for an Olympic berth.
A chance to silence all the 7th year haters.
Agree with this. Hacker has the pedigree and the speed to make a WC or Olympic team. He could be in the mix next year with another year building strength at altitude

If ‘building strength at altitude’ is a significantly key factor, and the guy has pro and Team aspirations, then why did he not go there much sooner in his life?
It's getting tough to make a 5000m team in the USA. Some of these guys have got to be thinking steeplechase pretty soon:
Name, PR, age, when PR set:
Grant Fisher, 12:46.96, 26, 2022 Woody Kincaid, 12:51.61, 30, 2023 Joe Klecker, 12:54.99, 26, 2023 Paul Chelimo, 12:57.55, 32, 2018 Matt Centrowitz, 13:00.39, 33, 2019 Sean McGorty, 13:02.13, 28, 2023 Adbihamid Nur, 13:05.17, 24, 2023 Cooper Teare, 13:06.73, 23, 2022 Cole Hocker, 13:08.55, 22, 2022 Morgan Beadlescomb, 13:08.82, 25, 2023 Olin Hacker, 13:09.94, 26, 2023 Emmanuel Bor, 13:10.91, 35, 2023 Nico Young, 13:11.30, 21, 2022 Connor Mantz, 13:11.81, 26, 2022 Kirubel Erassa, 13:12.71, 30, 2021 *Yared Nuguse, 7:28.24
coop to steeple could make a ton of sense, but the fact that no one faster than him is younger is fairly encouraging
and at 15, Hocker is probably only faster and younger guy, right?
Isn't Kessler faster too? Then there is Nuguse and a whole lot of talent coming up behind him from the last two years of high school. I think Teare has a lot of talent and is going to land somewhere and be successful but it's crazy to me that a guy who was winning NCAAs and setting records is now finding himself looking like a guy who might struggle to make one team later in his career.
I think Teare is getting ready to pop a solid 5000m though. Hope he's got one scheduled in Europe this summer.
Some people on that list ought to think about the steeple. It's relatively weaker in the USA and until recently was globally weaker than the 5000 or 1500. But now I think the global scene in the steeple is about to make a big leap forward.

I am a big Badgers fan. Love the Hacker family too.

Adrian Wildschutt, his HOKA teammate, ran 13:02 in the same race which is pretty impressive. He runs for South African; he might make some noise at worlds.
