Fay went back to his old coach in Ireland and instantly improved. Tanner went back to his coach in NZ and is now a 3.31 guy better than anything UW has. Solve the puzzle if you can
Fay has been with his Irish coach for all of one month. Tanner ran 3:34i for UW. Shut up.
When Ritz went to Salazar and ran 12:56 like 3 months later, Al Sal got the credit, not Hudson. Sam thing here.
I can get struggling in heat, but the race was won in 14:06. That's hardly faster than threshold pace for a 13:01 guy. He ran 3:52.0i, so I feel like running threshold pace for 4200m and then kicking would be the perfect setup for him. Maybe it just shows how deep the NCAA is right now tho idk.
I don’t think you are getting struggling in the heat.
How come there isn't a thread for Dave Smith? Wasn't Ok State program of the year? If you add up xc, indoor and outdoor results, they had the lowest score, right?
His reputation is SERIOUSLY TARNISHED because he lost to a tiny in-state rival called Gonzaga at NCAAs in cross country.
I just saw the Heusden results and wondering if there was a Powell thread. But a thread arguing his reputation has been severely tarnished as he somehow only coached Brian Fay, who just ran 13:01 today, to a single point at NCAAs this year and to a 13:16 pb :)
I'm kidding (and just trying to rile Jonathan Gault up).... sort of.
Powell has done an amazing job and what most impresses me is how the milers all seem to root for each other. But the OP wants to know if he gets top talent? LOL. Yes. 5 of the 8 guys who broke 4:00 this year had broken 4:00 before they set foot on campus.

Dave Smith also had two alumni make the World Championship team - Sinclaire Johnson and Kaela Edwards.
Andy Powell does not coach women. That gives him a significant advantage because he has a lot more time to recruit men and he's able to give the men 100% attention at practice.
One Dave Smith is better than both Andy and Mauricia Powell combined across both genders.

Obvious troll post. But Fay was coached by Powell till a few weeks ago. The two women you cited were last coached by Smith several years ago. Gimme a break.

Fay definitely stopped Powell training months ago. O'Sullivan and Thomas big breakthroughs after external training. They all benefitted from change, call it a Powells time out.
