Why is there not a men's 1500 listed? Are they not running one? I was hoping Jakob would chase the WR here. There's no better place for it. I'd be ok with it if he did the 5k instead (WR would probably go down), but he's not listed there either. What gives?
Also, is this gonna be a WR attempt in the 5k? Cheptegei broke it here in 2020, and this race is way deeper than that solo time trial. Twice on the circuit this year, someone has taken the lead at 3k, blasted it, and held on to win (or lose by .003) in 12:40/41. They must've thought no one could hang with them, but does that change now that there's 3 guys between 12:40-12:41? I'd love to see a WR, but you'd hate to be the guy who led from 3k-4800, runs 12:34, but gets outkicked.
It has been known for months that Jakob´s last race before Budapest will be DL Silesia this sunday.
Rumours say that Jakob will try to peak preliminary for Silesia similar to what he did when he set WB in the 2 mile. I won´t be surprised if he runs sub 3:27 provided weather, pacemaking etcetera is good.
After that he reportedly will go back to altitude training with the intention to have this seasons highest peak Budapest.
