With today's distraction of & obsession with social media, video games, dating apps, online porn, etc - it takes a tremendous amount of determination, motivation & discipline to engage in an excercise program.
I'm a boomer & grew up in the 70s & 80s - we didn't have those things back then. It was easier to go out & run or commit to a work out regime at your local gym or rec center.
You also had to get out in public & meet women. You had to learn how to develop your verbal skills & talk with women. And since we were out & about pursuing women (malls, night/dance clubs, local festivals, etc) - we wanted to look good physically by being in great shape.
Nowadays, I see so many younger guys overweight & sloppy looking. Many are already clinical obese setting themselves up for a myriad of chronic health problems.
Last year one afternoon I happen to be driving by a HS in my neighborhood when class was let out for day. I could not believe the amount of overweight/obese teenagers leaving the school & heading to their cars or the school bus. It was a sad sight - I was stunned the rest of the day! 😲 I went back & looked at my "Class of 1979" yearbook & didn't see anything remotely close to the obesity I saw with those kids that afternoon.
Let's face it - it takes a a lot of determination, motivation, willpower & discipline to engage & commit to a consistent excercise program (I'm 62 & work out every single day - weights & cardio - and have been doing this consistently over the last 40 yrs).
I don't think there's any hope for the future. With all that addiction to social media, video games, online porn, etc - "fun" things to do - how would these youngsters find the motivation & determination to work out on a regular basis?
