That's what I thought. 4 heats of the women's 800m, and 2 of the "big 3" both in heat 1? (Actually, they're the "big 2" this year, since Mu isn't in it).
Also, in a number of events, 1 of the heats has an extra runner (9 instead of 8, or 13 instead of 12). This obviously makes it more difficult to get a big Q (or in distance races even a small "q," since it creates more congestion), so I hope there's a methodically sound rationale for who they put in those heats.
I'm really surprised that one of the women's 200m heats literally has the entire top 3 (Steiner, Clark, Prandini) from the finals last year. You'd think they'd separate them, but nah, just a literal rematch of the finals in a heat round for some reason.
2023 marks are used where available for seeding according to what's posted on the USATF website
I just noticed that in the men's 800m that the DI NCAA champion and DII NCAA champion are both in the first heat. Now we really get to see who the top dog collegiate is. xD
just a bit of interesting trivia - the mens and womens 10k/20000m racewalk are the only events where the world standard is faster/superior to the meet record.
Makes sense - we are terrible (in a global context) at the walks. In the 10k the WC and OC times have become much more difficult than add in the fact the 10ks are even more affected by imperfect environmental conditions making for a more sit and kick race = MRs that are comparatively slower to PRs and abilities.
Women's 10k down to 20 competitors w/O'Keefe announcing withdrawl due to ankle staph infection . . . and very possibly 19 if Cranny advances in 1500 and scratches the 10k . . .
I had never heard of any healthy young person getting an "ankle staph infection" before the vaxx was forced on everyone.
This is why I didn't want Mu in the 1500 unless she is shooting for a team place. How does this help the other three who (presumably) are actually serious about this event?
Athing Mu is going to run most of the race in the second lane, and not bother anyone. She won't be a factor on who does, or doesn't, make the final.

… yeah i don’t need to watch that race to already know it’s Sumner
But I get the joke. Except Sumner can’t really say he’s the top collegiate without racing the d3 champ, right?
Sage Hurta has a pretty good chance of making the team in the 800, and very little chance of making the team in the 1500. So it's no surprise that she is running the 800.
Mu gifted an open road to the Final in Heat 1. She's through with a Cranny scratch and 4:05 or faster.
What makes you think that Athing Mu can drop her 4:16 PB down to 4:05? That's a massive drop for someone who doesn't train for the 1500.
Well you are technically correct but Mu did run 1400m of the mile she dropped out of in 3:50 according to Gault's preview, so you have to imagine that if she just kept moving she would be no worse than 4:10, probably 4:08. But that was a long time ago too, so it's not particularly relevant to today.
I do think if Mu is in good shape and is actually trying (not just making a required appearance), assuming the conditions are good she will improve her PR. I don't think even if she was in 4:05 shape that she's easily making the final. Assuming it isn't a jog fest or a bad weather day, if Mu is trying I'm predicting 4:09 - 4:12. I'd love to see her rip something faster but making a conservative prediction here.
Am I going to be the first to mention the fact that Montana State Steepler, and American leader btw, Duncan Hamilton is listed for Nike/Bowerman track club.
Has anybody heard any official announcements from either himself or the BTC, or is this some cataclysmic mistake from USATF.
*They could also planned to reveal his signing at USA's and have just forgotten that heat-sheets exist.

A few weeks ago, someone on this forum posted DH was joining BTC . . . s/he obviously was plugged in . . . nothing official yet . . . but not a USATF typing error . . .
Same happened at the Oly Trials 2 years ago when Thomas Ratcliffe showed up in a BTC kit after having just completed his collegiate career at North Carolina . . .
Unless I am wrong, because there are only on USATF.TV or Runnerspace..there is no ability to tape or record..right? Another failing in the way they did this? I have a ten year old grandson LL All Star game..at 5:30 est..so I miss the 800's ..LOL..oh well
