Correct. He started it, and Im obliged to respond.
It has absolutely nothing to do with race. Mia Brahe Pedersen is a more diverse athlete as in good in more events.
She is also more of a high school athlete than Jackson, which Nike wants. They don’t want the look of Nike HS athletes to be people that travel the world, barely racing other high schoolers and instead racing pros.
Also, I am almost certain that Shawnti Jackson would have even approaches for NIL deal already.
I notice that you only mentioned the 100. Mia is #3 All Time in the 200 while Jackson is #9…

Mia is actually tied for #1 in the 200 in legal outdoor conditions.

How many HS sprint records did Mia set this year?
Who set THE sprint record this year (100m; Shawnti).
In all reality, this is probably more of a case where Mia does it first, then Shawnti follows suit. The world is all about being resourceful, and sometimes you don't realize an avenue is possible until you see someone else do it. I am not convinced this has anything to do with race.
I'd suggest you take a listen to the Citius Mag podcast with Charles Hicks. He talks about the process of him getting an NIL with Nike this past year. He explains he didn't even realize that was a possibility until Katelyn Tuhoy announced hers with Adidas. Only then did he look into agencies he could work with to get his NIL secured. One important element in Charles Hicks' situation is Nike was not seeking out this NIL deal; he had to seek it out himself. And he's the NCAA cross champion.
If I had to guess, I'm going to say Shawnti will certainly look into NILs now and most likely secure one. Race does not determine a person's ability to do these things, and it does not hinder a company's likelihood to enter into such a deal. But the reality is athletes apparently need to approach the brands to secure these deals, not the other way around.

Its a strange pick to be sure. MBP doesn't have a lot of social media presence (then again a hser probably should not). Neither does lrc favorite Shawnti though. Maybe that is what nike wants. Someone who focuses on athletics in order to generate advertisement from her entire social media campaign going forward.
Anyways, I assume the NIL deal vice a pro contract is so MBP can continue to compete for her hs and keep open the prospect of competing in college.
I've made this point in other threads. Social media is interesting, but performance is more important. If you win gold medals, your socials jump even if you don't post much.
MBP can be a nice story next year, as a HS senior at Olympic trials. She's also from Oregon and Nike didn't want her to slip away.
Sure a white sprinter is entertaining, but Nike has been pretty successful with Michael Jordan, Bo Jackson, Ken Griffey Jr., Tiger Woods since long ago etc., so I think we're well beyond racism in sports sponsoring.

The one reasonable response
And your assumption that Nike is racist is reasonable?
Before leaping to that conclusion, a reasonable person would take into account the fact that the vast majority of athletes that Nike sponsors and otherwise has under contract are black.
If you really wanted reasonable responses, you wouldn't make unreasonable assertions. But I suspect that it's not reasoned discussion that you're after.

The various articles on this story mention that she worked with an agent to secure this deal. On the one hand, I think “good for her.” Obviously she has worked hard and deserves what she can get. On the other hand, she’s a rising high school senior. Is this going to be the new norm, with talented high school kids hiring agents to go after various NIL deals before they’ve even signed a letter of intent to compete at college?
I hope it all works out for the young woman, but it does this portend a sea change to the dynamic of high school competition? She’s 17, and now she has to think about a whole other set of concerns - marketability, incentive clauses, Instagram followers, business expenses, whatever. I hope running remains fun for her and not freighted with too many extra burdens.

Gee. A major corporation being racist. Or reflecting a racist fan base. How unreasonable.
