I'd argue that they're already a contender based off of their top four, but without a strong five it'll be hard to beat NC State or Colorado. Four returning All-Americans is pretty nice though, with one of them being Valby definitely sets them up nicely.
1. Valby -- 18:25.90
2. Asekol -- 19:25.3
3. Mazza Downie -- 19:37.3
4. Thorner -- 19:57.6
the significance of times from different courses and races? FL now has 3 runners withing 40 seconds of Valby at Nationals which is very good.
Shapiro was within 43 seconds of Valby at that extremely fast SEC Championships (in which Valby set an all-time collegiate best for a 6k x-country course.)

Shapiro was 1 minute 43 seconds behind Valby, not 43 seconds. Only 5 runners were within 43 seconds of her.

He just got the meet wrong, I think. She was 43 seconds behind Valby at the regional.

Wow (gulp)! 😳
sorry.
Maybe Parker’s peak last fall was around that time in the season, rather than at Natty’s.
The top runners did not seem to run hard at the regional
Oh, come on, man! Is there always an excuse for NC State and/or Tuohy from some posters?
Valby beat Tyynismaa by 18 seconds at regionals and 18 at nationals Valby beat Olemomoi by 18 seconds at regionals and 15 at nationals Valby beat Asekol by 24 seconds at regionals and 26 at nationals Valby beat Chelangat by 18 seconds at regionals and 28 at nationals
Nationals was not much different than regionals. I guess Valby took it easy at nationals, too, right?
Shapiro finished 43 seconds behind a hard running Valby, simple as that.
that's a formidable Top 5. I have to put them ahead of NC State at this point, unless of course NC State grabs some transfers of their own. Colorado and BYU will also be tough, but man, Florida is stacked.

ha ha. The top 5 finishers (Valby + 4 AL) averaged 45 seconds slower at the regional than the SEC meet. The Ole Miss,Tennessee and other AL/FL runners ran about the same time in both races on average and most were withing about 5 seconds. Helmers of Ole Miss and Churchill of FL St were both 40 seconds back of Valby at Regional and about 60 seconds at Nationals. Van Den Berg of FL St was 30 seconds back at regionals and 45 seconds back at nationals. Got some better data?

Much discussion - but no NC St's top 4 if all return healthy are better than FL top 4. 5th migh be close

Since you can't handle nor comprehend people having PR's from different courses, here are their times from NCAA's last fall. 19:30.9, 19:56.5, 20:02.8, 20:13.9 ...
FastTuohy had a completely valid point: PRs from radically different XC courses don’t make for meaningful comparisons. Why you gotta call them stupid over it? Jeez.
And Angelina Perez, who will be a redshirt freshman competing this fall. Four seconds behind Cook at Eastbay in 2021. Wilson will probably be the #6 runner. If either of the other NM runners (Grice and Larkin) and/or Alabama's Olemomoi transfer to Florida, it is lights out for everybody. UF may find themselves winning XC, Indoor Track, and Outdoor Track in the same season. I think the last team to do that may have been Arkansas in 2019 and before that I think it has been awhile.
