This is a small thing, but it is a another example of why track and field isn't a real sport.
Every other professional sport has mandatory media appearances where athletes are fined heavily if they don't show up or act reasonably. They are provided with PR and media training. They realize they are entertainers as much as they are professional athletes.
Even after Lebron loses the NBA finals he has to sit down and give a press conference. He is reasonable and well put together.
Nothing really to do with Sydney in particular, this is pervasive throughout the entire sport. Sorry if you want to be a professional and get a paycheck to run, you need to do the media too, that is part of professionalism
