This account hasn't posted anything like this before it seems as far as I can tell. If this sht is real he better be trolling
this looks like a set-up to me. The "me" deleted their chats so we don't know the context. Anyways, something should be done about it
I am pretty upset the post this before Connor's big race tomorrow. This instagram account needs to be liability shading a high schooler's reputation without solid evidence like this. I am talking legal consequences here
you talking about xc season? The race is tomorrow. How is running an all out 5k tomorrow going to hurt him in the long run?
Some of you will learn the hard way.
Yeah the top talent gets to race through July and opens up later in the XC season. I was able to my junior and senior years race through the USA Champs and simply pushed back my XC start with the team until mid-Sep. thankfully I had a teammate in the same boat. Same Sortve experience as a FR as I raced USA Juniors and coach worked a plan for me to open later. Didn’t hurt me one bit but racing fast and against the best gives you so much confidence heading into any season. At the top level, a “summer” of XC training doesn’t move the needle.
The fact that Connor is commenting and liking a lot of comments on that post seems to suggest he thinks the whole thing is funny. I feel like his "smack talking" before the NON race came off as a fairly immature attempt at getting attention, but was ultimately harmless. Encouraging this type of post makes me feel like he actually may not understand where the line is between "just having fun" and getting called into an administrator's or coach's office to talk about how his behavior is negatively impacting the image of the team and putting his scholarship in jeopardy.
For a minute I was thinking maybe he should stop racing and go into a base phase for XC season. Then I realized he should race to his heart’s content since once he shows up in Oregon he might not race for 10 months.
Just noticed that Burns’s future teammate Dan Watcke is in the 800 in this same meet - that’s one to watch out for, could easily see Watcke going sub 1:48. The Illinois 800 record is 1:47.95 by Sean Torpy and there are a number of 1:47 guys in his heat, so watch for Watcke to go for that record.
