They could have easily signed up for their high school team and stayed with it long enough to run at Arcadia.
But that would have meant not training with Sean Brosnan, which started in December 2022. The Youngs wanted to stay with Sean Brosnan and the only way to do that was to not run with their high school team.
So that decision was already made in December 2022 immediately after NXN, not in April 2023.
His wife was their HS coach. If they stayed with their team he would have been their de facto coach.
The reason they left the team was they wanted to compete in certain competitions that was inconsistent with CIF eligibility rules. They’ve been pretty explicit about that. It’s still not clear to me why they didn’t stay with the team to a certain point (through Arcadia at least) then left if they felt certain pro meets were so important. This is basically what they and Colin did last year—do Arcadia, skip state part of CA season and run sound running/pre/whatever after. Obviously their choice—but I think the pre-Arcadia results weren’t worth skipping it for.
Burns is talking big for the guy who’s about to get smoked today. If Rocky Hansen is in this field he’ll lose to him as well. Birnbaum is the best miler I think and he’s probably going to win, but having 2 hard races in his legs already this week shakes things up a little. Gonna be a competition between him and Leo for the win.
If anyone has access to the RunnerSpace+ replays, the first heat of the Boys Emerging Elite mile had some jostling that sent a runner off the track, that runner returning to lane one and throwing a huge shoulder check, then the shoulder-checked runner returning the favor with a full two-handed push that sent the first runner tumbling into the infield.
Somehow, no DQs are showing up in the results, but it was the closest thing to a full-on fight that I've seen on the track.

You, like many other people who don't have inside information, assume wrong. Sean Brosnan was definitely NOT their de facto coach after he left for UCLA.
In fact, Sean Brosnan was PISSED at Lex and Leo's NXN strategy, which he had nothing to do with. He called them a couple of idiots after the race.
After NXN, Sean Brosnan and the Youngs realized that they were better together than apart, especially with Lex and Leo wanting to keep running cross country for a few more months.
If Brosnan was going to be their de facto coach, then there would have been no need for them to jump through the hoops of creating the Newbury Park Running club, which was created right after NXN.
I realize that a lot of people would have liked to see Lex and Leo run at Arcadia. But Lex and Leo chose Sean Brosnan over Arcadia. It is what it is.
Really beta look to be shiiittalking like a couple of teenage girls. When you're confident, you generally don't go out of your way to punch down, so it just goes to show that the NP boys still live in their heads rent free.

No, they were just fooling around. They don't actually have anything personal against Lex and Leo.
Question I genuinely don't know the answer to: did Hobbs Kessler miss a lot of high school races his senior year? I don't really recall him doing them. Granted, he didn't have competition on his level. I say this because I think what the Youngs are doing, while arguably objectionable, isn't unprecedented.

If this is true, I’d love to be a fly on the wall at the Brosnan dinner table… Sean had enough time to create a whole track club but could not just talk to the person he lives with?

Agree. Lex and Leo, or their new names at NB today June 18- Alexio and Emilio (ridiculous), got very big heads senior year. Both bombed at NXN.. they set some records, but blew off CIF, and neither broke 4 minutes. Simeon destroyed both. The Youngs are better 5K runners. Will be interesting to see how 10K XC goes. 10K is just too long.
It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out Brosnan and the Newbury Park boys post constantly on this site to hype up their own guys. They are also the ones trying to discredit Birnbaum by commenting on those videos saying he hasn't beaten Leo and Lex yet.
Guess what, your troll online army can't help them in the race and Birnbaum is just better than your athletes. Burns has a brighter future too. You don't need to resort to personal insults, it's classless.

That’s their real name bruh
And they all know 5k is their best distance, even Simeon said in his story Leo would destroy him in a 5k, he just happens to have more fun running shorter races apparently.
They’ll handle 10k XC just fine, Leo placed 16th at worlds XC over 8k.
The Young brothers are in the IB Program while being national level runners, and still get good grades. I don’t see how they would only be able to get a 2.5
