Why were the NCAA track finals held in Austin when it's over 95 F? Katelyn looked really hot after she finished like 4th in her heat. It was 95 F during the finals. Ridiculous and dangerous! Why weren't they held in Oregon where it's much cooler?
First of all USAs is not the goal, because she had no chance internationally yet... I mean if she's only running 1503 for a 5K she has zero chance to make the US team
Let me repeat that she has zero chance no way in hell it's not happening
Further you guys don't seem to understand what a strong effort is versus what is an easy race
At ACC's her 10K was a joke for her she ran at a moderate pace
To qualify in the 10K and 5K she would have just had to run a sub 16 minute 5K again that's a joke for her
But warming up for a 1500 and running a pretty fast time like a 4:11 and then following it up with a 5K a few hours later is ridiculously more taxing
Anyway you'll be nice if a few people could at least enjoy these basic facts
The girl who won the 10K is a much slower runner at every distance and it was not a fast 10K time...
you may not think USAs was the goal, but she seemed to state it was her goal for a while.
People forget how much more a college athlete has to contend with than a pro. Having a full course load plus 3 seasons of racing is a lot. One thing that makes me optimistic for Tuohy is that the US Championships are close to a month after NCAAs (instead of the 2 weeks last year). That is a lot of time for her to regroup. She can still train well AND rest because she does not have school work. For the month preceding this meet she can enjoy a similar life to what the pros have - she can just focus her efforts on training and recovery and enjoy the rest of her time. That might make a big difference.
Competition at the U.S. Olympic trials in Eugene, Oregon, was suspended on Sunday after temperatures topped 109 degrees Fahrenheit (43 Celsius), officials said, the hottest ever recorded in the town.

The NC State spring term ended April 30, she's been training like a pro since then.
Hard to say. She didn't get into a top academic school
you wind them up and they post something negative. Most people think Michigan is good, and I believe she got in there. She seemed to choose to go to NC St.

“do you realize everyone else was smart enough not to take that bait?”
She is the record holder in the mile and more of a 1500m / 5k runner than 5k / 10k. She had a bad race, doesn't mean she should have done 10k
I think she's more a 5k / 5k runner, so maybe she should have just done the the 5k, just sayin'.
Tuohy's always been a distance runner, who happens to be good at 1500; think Monson. If she wasn't under coach/media microscope, she would have long ago jumped in some road 10k/10mile/13.1 races for fun and curiosity like many avg HS/college runners do in the off season.
Although pounding out track 10ks isn't the most fun, or healthiest, it's definitely in the KT wheelhouse. Had she run 10k at east regional, 34:00 would have q'd; not too taxing for a 15:03/32:56 runner.
Just the 5k? In hindsight this looks pretty good. Definitely less risky, and it was good enough for Pre to pair up xc and 5k titles. They were looking, however, for a double for both challenge and team points, opting for 1500/5k over 10/5. Didn't work out, stuff happens.
She disrespected the competition, and it came back to bite her.
as-tro’s take: “she figured she was ‘next level’ (wink, wink) relative to her competition, and would brazenly overpower them, but some of us know what that implies.”
I do not think she was as sharp during outdoors as in indoors. A year of hard efforts and training caught up with her. But it is also relative. She ran 15:03 during a period of "flat" races. A 1500 and a 5000/10000 are just not the same thing. They are run at completely different paces and it is much easier to make a mistake or get knocked off your game in a 1500m. No one goes out too fast in a 5000/10000, and these races are completely in her wheelhouse. Whereas the 1500m is not a race she has run at this level in championship races before. I think that inexperience cost her because it caused her to overreact to all the contact in the semifinal by going out too hard. If she had gone out more sensibly, waited until the 800 to make a move, then she would have had a shot worn down or not.
I think the 10000m is a natural distance for her. Unless she was ill I do not see her losing at the pace the 10000m was run.

She would have won the 5000m standing alone. I know that is heresy on this board (lol), but she ran 15:03 in May. "But the heat" is a heck of a stretch in a 15:30 race.
No she wasn't accepted. The process for athletes at highly selective schools is that they get recruited, they submit their academic information after telling the coach that they want to attend, and they get an informal reading if they will be admitted with the boost. If she went down the path of leading Sullivan on, once she told him she wasn't interested, she would have received a rejection from Michigan.
