Yikes. Think we had enough of that with Mekhissi and Baala.

Probably the way he was raised.
He's interested in the former World Record holder tweeting at him congratulations for breaking his record. I'm sure he'll be very gracious if and when that dream becomes reality. He's aiming for GOAT status that's for sure.

A: Ummmmmmm I mean It's cool that people ummmm follow along I guess.
I think that Jakob pretty clearly doesn't care much for El Guerrouj. Reading between the lines, it's either professional jealousy, competitiveness, or suspicion of drug use. A very different reaction to this sort of question than you might get in other situations.
He seemed to like and respect him two years ago :
One thing I’ve noticed with Jakob over the years is he never names or talk about another runner in specific. El Guerrouj in this interview was one of the few exceptions.
In 2022 when asked what it was like to be at a major championship meet without his father, he just said "No." I got roasted on here for thinking that was a weird non-answer.

i appreciate that he doesn't indulge us with things he doesn't care to discuss, but at the same time realize the way he goes about it is a bit odd; at least from an American perspective.
pretty disrespectful. at least show some appreciation for El G's kind words. i don't think showing gratitude is an American thing.
Many greats in sport acknowledge how good other athletes before them were, but don't idolize them or care much. They're focused, and they believe themselves to be equal or better than anyone else, as they should, because that's how you perform at your best - by believing you are the best.

you don't have to idolize someone to tell them, "thanks". it's not that complicated.
El G is as dirty as they come. Why would Jakob care about what one of the biggest frauds of all time had to say?

Yes but Jakob knows you cannot run sub 8 for 2 miles and be clean. He knows this.
Jakob is one of a few of the CLEAN ones on this list.
Jakob is jealous of all the EPO that El G got to take, the various gray area drugs that Gjert started feeding him at a young age are paltry by comparison

What are you waiting to build a legal case? instead of opening your mouth too big behind a screen.
OK Aouita is dirty, Morceli is dirty, El G. is dirty ... it's only you that smoke "cleanliness" (but not the one behind your tongue).
Being great at running does not make someone an admirable person. [I think because of the halo effect, some expect profound eloquence and grace.] If anything, being told how great you are your whole life engenders arrogance, not humility and respect. Amazing runner, but based on his interviews, an ass of a human being
What an Adam’s apple!!! Dude is PED!!
I assume it's the drugs. Didn't he recently make some comment sort of talking about the different drug testing or am I making something up?
Anyways, I've never met anyone who thinks El G was clean. I once asked an Olympic 1500 guy what he thought about El G and he said, "Dirty as hell." I said, "How confident are you?" He said, "110."
So I don't get sued into oblivioun, please realize that doesn't mean he was dirty.
He was simply confused and thought the interviewer said El DeBarge. He was confused why a washed up 80's singer would be so interested in his race.
I was just looking at El Guerrouj and people talk about the spikes and recovery…
El Guerrouj in 1998 ran the ridiculous 3:26.00 world record in Rome on July 14. He ran 3:44.60 for the mile in a different country (France) on July 16. OK pretty good time to put the legs up? Right? Nope he traveled to Gateshead and ran 4:48 for 2000 on July 19.
Im sorry but it all just defies belief.
