Joe 10k 9th: off the back with 800 to go and finishes 11 seconds back from leaders
Alicia 10k 13th: Never in it. Karissa was only 9th but finished 45 seconds in front of Alicia. Natosha Rodgers is only 10seconds/1-2 places behind Alicia.
Ollie 1500: doesn’t make the final
Geordie 5k: doesn’t make final. 12th in his heat. This one wasn’t about expected. In the right race could’ve made it maybe.
So OAC is firing every meet except the most important one of the year ?? Maybe Dathan just peaked them wrong last year but if I remember this spring was similar to last year as well just with less athletes
So he got beat by a couple seconds in a sprint by guys who live and train at altitude the first week of June. Grant has been at sea level all spring( we know because Mo was complaining about in Florence )
And now he’s gonna be at altitude for the next almost THREE months !! (Minus usas) training and he’s not going to get better. Okay good to know
If he does well (as in, Medals). Then I'll gladly take my words back. But, He should already be destroying people like he did early last year with times, bare minimum. Should be a heavy hitter in Diamond League meets.

There is a huge, huge gap between Solinsky's career and medaling. But then again you said Keely was in 1:52 shape or something stupid, so I shouldn't be surprised.

Look, do you want Americans to win or keep giving them Participation trophies for barely holding their head above water?
Anti-Fisher threads hopefully give runners (or Grant himself) the push to get better.

As for Keely,
In my heart she'll always be a 1:52 runner. Maybe in others too.
Interesting thread. I don’t think the comparison works, but we will see.
I do think that runners stop being able to tolerate Jerry’s training after about age 26. There are some exceptions but that’s what I’ve observed. So if Grant ends up injured this year or next, I won’t be surprised. Hopefully I’m wrong.
Uh oh. He dropped out of the USA 10k due to injury....Is the New Chris Solinsky here already? (BTW, I'm not a Solinsky hater. He's actually on my Top 10 lists. I'm just forever disappointed that his potential was never tapped due to Injury. 2010 will always be the year to remember...happier days)

Grant has three top 5 and one top 10 finishes in WC/Olympics and broke 4 American Records last year.
Klecker has one 9th place finish. No records. Woody has zero WC/Oly top 10s and 1 AR. They are both 35 seconds slower in the 10k. Maybe one gets the 5k record, but I honestly don’t see it andO don’t see either breaking 26:50 in the 10k.
Grant(turned 26 this year) is younger than both them(Joe turns 27 this year; woody turns 31 this year) and has already accomplished more so do what you will with that.
Hey Princess.
I never said Grant was unaccomplished. My point was that he's not gonna replicate his 2022 fitness. Based on everything you've witnessed this year. You think he'll go Sub 26:30 10,000m, Low 12:40s, and Go faster than Yared Nuguse's 3000m Time? Gimme a break. He's peaked and likely won't medal against either 5K or 10K.
5000m Hitters right now
Joshua Cheptegei (12:35.36)* #1 All-time
Yomif Kejelcha (12:41.73) #5 All-time
Jacob Kiplimo (12:41.73) #5 All-time
Selemon Barega (12:43.02) #7 All-time
Jacob Krop (12:45.71) #8 All-time
Telahun Bekele (12:46.21) #10 All-time
Nicholas Kimeli (12:46.33) #11 All-time
And that's just everyone faster than him on Paper.
Now the real contenders for medals and the kickers:
Jakob Ingebrigtsen (7:54.10 Two Miler)
Mo Katir (Beat Grant by almost 5 seconds and defeated Kejelcha in the process)
Luis Grijalva (Beat Grant by 4 seconds in Florence)
Mo Ahmed
Woody Kincaid
Joe Klecker
Grant is a great time-trialer. Not a medal contender, His chance was last year and likely won't get another. RIP 2022 Grant.
Listing Klecker and Kincaid as top contenders on the world level and not Fisher is blatantly disrespectful and potentially moronic. I'd bet good money Fisher beats them both at worlds and he probably has his peak timed better enough to dust them both at USA's too. The difference between them is that Fisher is good enough to make the team on an underwhelming day and can afford to peak for the worlds championship while the other two are chasing times and contracts and burned out by August when it matters most.
I’m not seeing the connection. Solinsky’s record-breaking season was 2010. The next year, he finished second behind Lagat and ahead of Rupp (again) in the 5K at the US championships. He then suffered a hamstring injury (while tripping over his dog) that required surgery and kept him out of the world championships, and sadly he was never the same again.
As far as we know, Fisher is not injured. It’s also way too soon to be drawing conclusions about his 2023 season, let alone his future. The world championships are more than two months away. So what if he got beat in early June. Do you want him running his best in late August or early June?
I hate to be that guy but according to World Athletics:
He didn't even make the 5K or 10K team for Budapest. So his greatest performance of the season is his 12:56.99 5000m in Florence in early June. Looks like I'm a visionary. Jerry burns his Athletes out too much and we might just see the most talented distance runner team USA has had since Galen Rupp die out too soon before his peak. Our 26:33 10K guy didn't even make the team. Sad.

How much money would you bet on that?
This year was slightly easier than last year too since Kiplimo isn't running (doesn't better his odds just saying a heavy-hitter isn't running).

I’ll gladly be that guy. Fisher just broke the American record in the 3,000. You are not a visionary.

LOL
Why that guy keep bumping this thread?! Now he look dumb AF.
Grant looking hella good heading into 2023. 7:25?! That’s a 12:40-:41 equivalent performance.

Supershoes + Time-trials and No Medals.
What a guy.
He's obviously talented but, In the era of Times similar to what Geb and Bekele had being matched every week by guys who had little global flame a few years ago. I digress that at this point, Fisher could run 7:20 and people on letsrun will just wrap a cult around him. But on a sunny day in Budapest, couldn't do shmuck.
