That’s what, a 3 second improvement in one year? At this level? I wasn’t fully on the Sumner hype train before but now I’m seeing 1:42 and a world/old medal or two at some point.
Really excited to see where he goes over the rest of this year and in the future. Cool to see Georgia have a mid-d star too.
It's okay that you weren't but your standards must be ludicrous if you did not believe a 45/146.5 guy and 2x US HSR holder didn't hop the chops for further huge gains very quickly.

Totally valid, from my perspective, truly elite 800m runners are so rare because once you start getting sub 47 fast let alone sub 46 fast it may and usually means you are blessed with speed but don’t have the aerobic potential to use all of it in an 800m. There are so many 46/1:47-1:50 types out there, so for me it was an “I’ll believe it when I see it”
Please list the other times in history someone has run faster than that with a negative split.
True freshman.
Enjoy the pro ranks?
That was probably his last individual race as a college athlete.
Can he make the 2023 world team? I wouldn't bet against him.
He would quit the coach that got him this far?
He probably still wants a college education, and I imagine if he tries to balance courses with the diamond league, it would not be an easy fall. He should take at least another year
