Yeah we need Malmo around but did Harvey Glance really die yet? I am not doubting it but no media stories?
Here are some articles on Glance's passing. This thread was actually started before he died but after he was found unresponsive at practice by Kirani James.
Only 66 years old.
Auburn has a great tribute upon him where author Jeff Shearer describes him as "the greatest sprinter in Auburn history and the university's first Black head coach in any sport/

Here is an article where his death is described and his wife is quoted.

No way! You’re a tuff of the track like all steeplechasers. You’ll make 90+ on sheer spite alone.

Agreed!!!!!
Please stop it! Harvey Glance has not passed away
He was our head coach from 91 on until he went to Bama. I saw him at Coach Rosen's memorial in 2018, and he looked like he was in the same shape he was at 25. He always took care of himseld. You never know.

When you wrote that, he had not died. He did die on the 12th.
Here is a story from the local paper. He died doing what he loved - coaching track. Kirani Jamies walked over to him to tell hi he was warmed up and ready to train and realized Glance was unresponsive.
Only 66 years old. Wife said he was in good shape. So sad.

Here's an even better article from the Auburn website where he was called, "The greatest sprinter in Auburn history and the university's first Black head coach in any sport" A great read.
Does anyone know a) why he left Auburn for Alabama? and b) Why he left Alabama when he was relatively young? and c) How was he as a college coach?

RIP Harvey Glance. Amazing athlete, better man. 76' was a magical year for him. Got to see him up close that year at the SEC Champs, my FR outdoor season. Then again at the 76' NCAA Champs at Franklin Field where he won the 100 and 200. Hang in there Malmo this gettin old s**t is for real.
Very likely that's exactly what happened.

I was traveling through Auburn in about 1995 or so and stopped by to see some of the old gang. I had told one of my sons (age about 5 or 6) that we were going to see Harvey Glance and that Harvey was really fast. Now my son had an obsession with big cats and had seen all the national geographic stuff on lion, tigers... and he asked me "Is a Harvey as fast as a Cheetah?" To my kid, Harvey wasn't a person, he was a species of really fast cats!
I still laugh every time I think of this.
Harvey was definitely a fast cat!
