At the Festival of Miles in St. Louis, The St. Andrew's Episcopial School (MD) senior became the 19th U.S. High school boy to break four minutes for the mile...
Very unfortunate that this thread celebrating a great achievement by a talented young man has immediately descended into furious debate over race. Letsrun at it's finest. This is why most of the running world refuses to associate with this website.
20 American highschoolers have broken 4 and Matsadsa is the first black American athlete to do so. This is something important worth acknowledging.
Congrats Tinoda. Looking forward to your following career going forward.
Funny how a post is made that's specifically about race, as well as where a person was born, and then comments that are about race are criticized with the implication that they're racist. Should have quite at "celebrating a great achievement by a talented young man" but I guess we live in an age where virtue signaling is important. Hopefully, we can some day get past seeing skin color and celebrate greatness regardless of race. Too many bigots and virtue signalers for that to happen anytime soon.
I hope runners like him and Yared Nugue become great inspirations to all African-Americans doing distance running in America
Yeah, just like Tiger became such a great inspiration to all young African Americans golfers that have followed in his footsteps.?
Golf is a way less accessible sport and Tiger Woods had a pro golfer as a dad. His story is not one of inspiration.
Plenty of black kids already run, but would rather be mediocre sprinters than try an 800. Hopefully it motivates more kids to not see distance running as a "white sport" and give it a try.
Tiger’s father wasn’t a pro golfer and claimed that he was “close” to being a scratch golfer. He didn’t pick up the game until age 42 and was a baseball player in college.

You missed the point. Golf is a much less accessible sport than running.
There are far fewer barriers to pursuing distance running than there are to "following Tiger's footsteps."
Considering the majority of black American distance runners competing for the US are raised in Africa, It's a greatest accomplishment to see in American born black high schooler have success. I hope runners like him and Yared Nugue become great inspirations to all African-Americans doing distance running in America.
Black American, right? I feel like there has to be at least one Kenyan / Ethiopian who did it
