Does anyone on this board work for AOL?
Does anyone on this board work for AOL?
A while back I actually read the AOL terms of service agreement. In summary, it basically says that no matter how much their service sucks, they aren't liable for anything. If their f*cking modems go down for a month and you can't log on, they don't have to refund your money. It's brilliant.
i already posted once but felt like it again....
eff ya AOL is a POS...
they are one of the most powerful co.s in America and they basically dont sell anything...
if someone told me to sum up what AOL does...I would have a hard time...whoever said they exploit people who dont understand how the internet works is right....
i just cant fathom why anyone who understands that you dont need AOL to get on the internet would pay them a cent...aside from the fact they got tricked into it, and stopping payment is a huge pain..
and their homo ads on TV piss me off... the give a number and email address you can call to "make the internet better" !!!
like they own the internet or something...or that they give a crap about what their 'victims' think...
besides everyone knows Al Gore owns the internet..
to sum everything up, AOL is one of Americas most powerful co.s and their business model basically consists of fleecing ignorant people...
id like one person on this site who willingly pays for AOL to tell us why!
What you have to do is BS them to the day you die. I signed up and canceled to get a free IPOd many times and what you have to do is make up some serious BS. I'm going on a mission to Paraguay, a virus attacked my computer and I am changing service, whatever. If you are forceful and threaten them, they will back down. AOL sucks though, it's even harder if you ahve used the service. I never did.

Nice. I just hope you aren't on some collections list somewhere. I don't think anyone willingly signs up for AOL, I think somehow they are tricked into accidently signing up and are too lazy to follow up on the cancellation process.

how do you get the free iPOD? If I'm gonna get hassled and cheated, I may as well get free shit?

I work for Visa. There is no way to stop a merchant from charging your account. You can only have a charge disputed. This applies to all credit cards. However, you have every right to dispute the charge if it appears on your bill. Best bet is to send a cancellation letter to AOL and keep a copy for your records.
I had Earthlink dsl a few years ago, but it was expensive and not very good service so I called to cancel.
The rep said I had to speak to the cancellation specialist and transfered me. I held and held and no answer. I called back again and the same thing. They told me they didn't accept email or even written cancellations, that I had to speak to the specialist. Finally every time I called I asked them to make a note that I was calling to cancel. That helped, even though they said they couldn't do anything, transfered me again, and I'd hold for hours and hours.
After I held for probably 6 hours within a couple of weeks, I am convinced that no one ever answers the phone for anyone to cancel their service with Earthlink.
Then even though I had called all those times AND had them make a note every time that I was calling to cancel, which they said they were not authorized to do, the F***ing A***oles charged my bank account for an additional month!
By the way they had also done that 6 months before, saying they "missed a payment" earlier in the year, which they hadn't. Thus they got 100 bucks extra from me and I never got it back. The bank said it was between me and Earthlink.
Well then the F***ing A***oles tried to keep charging me all summer long, this even though they had turned off my service when I had closed the bank account. Finally a rep called me and asked when I was going to pay them. You might guess what I said! She checked and said they had noted I had called to cancel 6 months earlier, though only one of the reps had really noted it, but that no one had really canceled it so it wasn't cancelled yet and they were going to keep charging me.
I said well do what you want, I have already cancelled it.
She said, well would you like me to cancel it?
I said, I already cancelled it last May.
She said it's not cancelled would you like me to cancel it as a favor to you?
I said, I cancelled it last May.
These sentences kept going on back and forth in various ways for 5 minutes or so, with me saying she could cancel it if she wanted however I already cancelled it in May.
I never heard from them again, and they still have my 100 bucks.
AOL, Time Warner, Disney, etc. are all conspirators speading steroids and drug abuse with the USATF, IAAF, MLB, NHL, WWF, NFL, and Cycling. They want more records broken, and work behind the scenes to keep the supply of streroids plentiful for athletes. It's really sick.
To add to the AOL horror story thread:
I had AOL for exactly one day once, just to get a new computer online until I could call the provider that I wanted.
The following day, I called AOL and cancelled.
Six months later, I discovered AOL had been charging me $18.95 a month for the past six months by actually withdrawing it from my checking account.
A phone call to AOL remedied nothing. We took your money after you cancelled, so? You have a problem with that?
Best advice is to be adamant with the AOL nimrod script readers in AOL customer service. Don't let them get away with trying to provide you free time or cheaper rates to keep you on board.
It seems likely AOL has a monthly sales quota for each person who takes a cancellation call and keeps them with the service.
Class action lawsuit is the way to shut down AOL and the other shithole ISPs.
There have been multiple class action lawsuits against AOL for fradulent billing.
And the band played on ...

I have Earthlink right now, and totally relate to this! They suck! And their tech support is the worst!
70x faster than dial up my a**! They knew damn well that there was no way in H*LL that I would ever be able to get the download rate they advertise in my neighborhood, but that didn't stop them from selling it to me!
When my contract is up in five months I'm canceling in a heartbeat!
