Terrible that BK is placed in this situation again and again where the money is so insulting he has to slide out of what fans want to see and place his stars in training races.
I have a genuine concern about Mu. I'm worried she is riding past her peak, and that her best 800s are behind her. I hope I am wrong.
i really thought we could at least get to USAs before the mu is done/uncompetitive/past her prime/overrated comments started but i guess this is letsrun so maybe that was a little optimistic
all i’m gonna say is that i would never bet against mu. people were less than hopeful last year - many expected keely to come out on top. guess what happened? even in 2021 there was doubt about the 19 year old on a full college season.
also, i think this a very unpopular opinion but i think mu could be a threat in the 1500 if she develops sufficient strength and endurance. 49 seconds in the 400 is pretty good wheels for a MALE 1500 runner.
my goodness this has to be a letsrun dream or something. let the speculation begin. any early guesses on what they end up running?
First thoughts: This is insane. Can't wait to watch this in person. Has a US 1500 runner *ever* been in contention for the 4x4, at any point in their career?
To save my doubts for last -- I hope this isn't just a symptom of Kersee not knowing how to coach a distance runner, or I hope that Mu doesn't just run the first round and withdraw to use her bye in the 800. The fact that Mu hasn't been announced for any Diamond League meets this year is worrying. If this is all essentially a hack to get away with running even *less* serious races this year, it will be a massive disappointment. I hope Mu runs like she's trying to make the team in the 1500 and not just jogging to check a box.

Has ANY 1500 runner every been in contention to make a national 4x400 team?
Well, ok. Let's rephrase that. Has any 1500 runner outside of the eastern block and maybe early 90s China ever been in contention to make a national 4x400 team?

A lot of teams have a pretty small Olympic delegation, so I'm sure it has happened outside the US. Actually, wasn't Donavan Brazier initially entered in both the 800 and 1500 at the 2021 USOT? This video title seems to indicate that was his plan, but he only ended up running the 800 -- goes to show that the chances of Mu actually taking this seriously seem to be slimming.
Remember, the USATF rule is that you only need to run one round of any event to "qualify" for Worlds in your primary event if you have a bye. Given their prior racing history, I think this is Kersee's plan until I hear otherwise.

Habs man, it’s because running a fast 800 SUCKS. Both the 400 and 1500 are better. Who the f would want to make a living running 800’s on the circuit?😁
imagine they just don't race for a year or whatever then miss out on a medal by both skipping their main events.
the women's 400m is way more competitive than 400mh hurdle so i suppose that makes sense and i'd honestly prefer syd be in that race. mu in the 1500m will be super interesting. not sure about that one personally.
They both already have byes in their main event for Worlds. Running these events at USAs would actually require them to race and hit the qualifying marks though
Finally the one guy with a brain shows up.
“hur durr Keelys gonna love this”
Love what? Mu skipping her own national championships so she can continue whatever extremely fine tuned training she’s been doing in order to prepare for worlds even better?
people on this forum act like you need to race a lot to race well. You don’t. You literally just need to be in good shape. People give “tactics” way too much credit in this sport which is literally just the most pure test of fitness that exists.
Not going to fall for the BS by this group. I am sure that in the days before USA's both SML and Mu will come down with some injury/illness and get a pass from USATf to not have to compete and still get to use their auto into Worlds

immediately disagree, but i use compare-to-male logic as well actually...
Athing's current PRs as a male are ALREADY roughly 44/1:42/3:45? - We can dogpile all we want on Athing's measly 4:16 and dropping out of Millrose, but how many fast 1500s and miles did you see Rudisha or Emmanuel Korir running?
Her range is already kinda unprecedented. If she medals at the world level in the 1500m, she is literally the best runner ever.

The person who will be most delighted by this nonsense is Keely. Wait whilst Mu chucks away all her speed by training for the 1500 which she has no signs of potential in. Mary Moraa who has now run 50s/400m will be pleased too.
Dude she is only running it at USAs because she has the automatic spot at worlds in the 800 from being the reigning world champion. Learn how the sport works bro

Riding past her peak at 20 years old? A stupid notion if there ever was one.
No, that's not a stupid notion. What's stupid is Mu focusing on modelling instead of track. If she keeps that up, then she won't ever PR again. Her PR of 1:55.04 is no joke. To run faster than that takes some seriously training, not modelling.

Any one who thinks that Bobby Kersee is telling the truth about Mu being able to qualify for the 1500 at USA's isn't very smart. Bobby Kersee says all kinds of things and then backtracks on them. He has no credibility.
