Asbel Kiprop is now treated like a pariah by other Kenyan elites. Before the bust, everyone wanted a piece of him. Now he gets ignored and you'll see former national teammates walk right past him acting like he's not there.
Overall you may be correct, but judging from some pics in the media, I think he still has a (limited?) circle of friends and followers. I'll try digging up something for evidence.
His Police Chief supports him, and I think he is still a high ranking Police Inspector or equivalent. In full uniform, the tall and handsome Kiprop does cut an impressive figure which invariably impresses interlocuteurs. People will remember that interview Asbel gave a few years ago proclaiming his innocence. He may have convinced himself of that, with a self fulfilling prophecy, despite the evidence pointing the other way
Anyway, I think it'll be difficult for Asbel to return to high level Athletics -too tall to make an impact in road running, half and full marathons. Not sure what his objectives are? Plan B?
Kenya's former Olympic and three-time world 1500m champion Asbel Kiprop has vowed to make a successful return to the track after his four-year doping ban elapsed on Wednesday.
...and you failed to realize I didn't know he was banned which is why I asked the question in the first place (prior to the article of his ban being lifted!) and you also failed to realize I DID read the article after someone here posted it for my reference
I just felt like reminding everyone that with this lifelong cheater removed from the results, Nick Willis is an Olympic champion and Matt Centrowitz is an Olympic *and* World champion.

Indeed. Too bad that cheater is back.
P.S. This will probably get deleted too though, considering letsrun's pro-doping mods.

While technically this would be true if you knew Kiprop was cheating in 2008, the race unfolds completely differently without Ramzi and Kiprop. No offense to Willis, but he raced for 3rd in every top flight race and I don’t think he ever was a threat to win gold in a global final with his approach. He can counter this here if he’d like but his races in the DL and major finals tell a story.

The race unfolds differently without "Too Juiced To Lose" Ramzi alone, yet Kiprop, Willis, and Baala still moved up.
Without dopers a lot of things would be different, and even if Kiprop didn't fail a drug test in 2008, someone who cheats and returns to cheating was, in all likelihood, cheating when he was the Olympic champion too.
What people on this thread might not know, and what can't be a coincidence, is that Kiprop recently spoke out at an Athletics Kenya meeting regarding changes to the by-laws and rules for AK. He was given the floor to speak and told the assembled officials that he though the time window for athlete testing needs to be extended beyond the 90 minutes that it currently is. That seems weirdly prescient, don't you think?

How does that extension enable the EPO to 'disappear'.
He missed the test window by 10min, they took a sample. So, was that positive or negative. If the former, we would have known...the transgression would not just be for whereabouts.

I don't know. I am not a scientist. I just think it is very suspicious and unusual that he would have advocated for a rule change on this exact issue just last month and now he is hit with this exact violation. Doesn't that seem strange to everyone? What are the odds of that?
I think your timeline is off, and he made the complaint after having it come up in his own experience. So, to clarify when he spoke up he was bringing up this anecdote, which we now know the details of. I don't think he was fortune-telling.

They’re only pro-doping by attractive (by their standards, not mine) female Americans with food truck sabotage stories.

Oh, that makes sense. Thank you! I guess we didn't hear about his missed test until after the meeting but the missed test actually took place before the meeting. That explains a lot.
p.s. I also have no idea if the "window" should be 90 minutes or 2 hours or what. I think a scientist has to decide how long a micro-dose is still detectable in the system and base the window on that. Otherwise, an athlete could wait 119 minutes, pounding a gallon of water, and try to flood the system before answering the doorbell.

This Message Board has been super harsh towards Shelby. I don't think there is any favoritism at all. I feel like you are looking for a bias where there is none.
It was Travis Tygart, not the dudes on this forum, who said Shelby's "positive" was out of line with what he would have expected and as such, somewhat off. That is Tygart's stance, not Letsrun's.
