Nuguse ran that time on an oversized indoor track. He also refused to suit up in the Olympics because his calve hurt after traveling to Tokyo. He’s not one of the greatest.

10 seconds of research would tell you it was done on a 200m indoor track
Considering that Jakob has a slightly faster 800m and 18 seconds and a World Championship gold at 5000m over him, Cooper has a long way to go to compete with him. However, as good as he is on the American stage at 1500/mile, his future is at the 5000m, in my opinion. The 800m time is the tell. He's run 13:06 while dabbling at the 5, and I predict him to run well under 13 after 1 1/2-2 years with BTC.
Teare is B Team, maybe. Hocker & Teare will never catch YN now and others are coming to take their place. Nice while it lasted but its over for them.
I agree but not because I’m a Hocker or Teare doubter, but Nuguse is an all time great talent.
Hocker and Teare could run 3:29 and get a bronze at some point like Kerr, but Nuguse is one of the greatest mile talents ever to walk the earth.
I mean 3:47 with a 25 second final 200m in his first year as a pro? That’s an El Guerrouj/Morceli level run. It’s almost more impressive than running a 3:28 in a Monaco time trial.
Teare is not a medal contender at any distance. While so many American runners are improving on past American performances, they are still not contending with the best in the world for 3 medals at most points in time. The Nuguse haters here obviously have trouble understanding reality. He is now in a position to have a CHANCE. Teare, no.

What I love about the way track and field works is that I can say that you’re objectively wrong.
. Not quick enough to be world class in a tactical 1500, though I do think he could be better in an all out time-trial style race. 5k is his future
Well thankfully for him the 1500 is never tactical anymore.
I think during Covid is when I first became aware of Teare. He recorded a video of himself trying to break 1:50 or something like that on youtube. As a coach, Iwas always trying to move guys up. As a fan, it's refreshing to see a guy move down and kick ass.
I think his medal shot is way better in 1500 than 5000 this year. Run it this year and see what happens. Strength = speed.

If this is true, then Coop is wise to run a few 800s and tune up that leg speed. If he could get down to 1:45, the engine is there to go sub-3:30.
Like others have said, nice result for a 5k guy in the beginning of his season. Still though, I think he needs to show he's at least running in the 1:46's before you could say he has the wheels to run the 15 as his main event.
Strength is not equal to speed in an 800. To drop from 1:47 to 1:45 would require a great deal more speed than he can produce. Race 1500 with the ultimate goal of championship 5k hopes.

Casually tossing out sub 3:30? You’re better than this, Hobbs. I’ve read your previous posts.
