Almost all of my teammates, most of whom (including me) are faster than him, think it's cringe. Their products are just 'virtue signaling' and their youtube channel is entirely self-promotion. I've also heard from someone in California that they're exceedingly arrogant
In a low key meet at Widener..Marco Langon ran a 3:58.x mile last night closing in 57.39. this, after running 13:47 at Princeton last week in his first 5K..winning closing in 60.3. These were his first two track races of his redshirted frosh year.
I was not expecting much from Martin or Langdon after their poor showings in XC. Both will far outshine that showoff from Kentucky.
Most believe NCAA XC is THE toughest race to run well at. For frosh running two 10K's in in 7 days is a big big adjustment. I am more surprised if freshman run well at the National Meet than if they run okay to poorly. I actually think that in today's XC world a mid pack placing is okay, not horrific. Then Langon ran World U 20 Cross and despite being pretty far back time wise, was 19th.He rn 4:04.x last year in HS Indoors, I kind of figured after his 13:37 winning 5K on a kind of warm night , that he could run under 4:00. I think Martin and Sahlman are also moving along nicely for sure.

1:47.7/3:39 as a frosh, outstanding, if expected. Hansen's time is noteworthy as well, as that is a sub-4 equivalent to go with his 8:34 3200m at Arcadia.
*4:00.20
Fair enough. It's close enough that he might or might not have dipped under had it been a mile.

Hansen goes for it in big meets like foot locker and track invites, forcing honest fast races. He may not have an official 4 minute mile yet, but he has a handful of 4:01s. Wake is getting a good one.
Gary Martin, UVA..who had run 1:47.74 last week, ran 3:39.53 1500M yesterday for second.
Cade Flatt 1:50.87 ..things are not getting better, not yet anyway.
HS'er, Rocky Hansen 3:42.41 at Wake Forest meet . Really like his running style, I think he will be a great Collegian, not a leap..I know, but not yet the fastest of the HS milers of this year.
Lmao. Thought he was supposed to be good. Does he still only run 2 miles a week?
More likely the opposite. The college training is more intense and he’s not responding to it.

Where is this mythical high school that is suddenly faster than Newbury Park? If you are on a college team, your critique is meaningless. I wish there were less threads about that school on this website but that's an entirely different discussion...
I agree that the channel is self-promotion but that is kind of the point. Plus it is entertaining to many of their fans and encourages young runners to get interested in running which is great. Big fan of raising money for charity via merch sales. Even if you consider it to be virtue signaling, you can't argue that they are generating actual $$$ for an important cause that is close to their own hearts.
Does Gary Martin have a youtube channel where he points the camera at himself and talks about himself?
So I'm in my 30s, which is to say a lot of my friends who thought distance running was for (insert slur that would get most cancelled here), have been told by their doctors that their health could be fixed by endurance exercise and better eating habits. Stories start to trickle in about their growing mileage and goals reached, until finally I'll get a message in my inbox asking if I've ever heard of "The Athlete Special" or "The Young Twins", or if I have ever raced Kyle Merber. These are some of the names the IG algorithm programs in when they recognize you're interested in running, and it gets people more interested. The content is riveting, catchy and easy to digest.
It's smart for them to market themselves, and it's great for the sport to get this exposure. It also leads folks to look up the GOATs because they tune into the next USATF championship or major marathon. I'm not saying everyone should do it, but the folks with a natural affinity for the spotlight should exploit it to help themselves and the sport. Where is the problem here?

Marco’s 2021 XC season was probably the most impressive single season in NJ XC I’ve seen in a long time. Then he ran 4:04 (and 8:48 against Barna in the bubble —very slow—) indoor and proved how talented he was. Happy for the kid always great to Jersey runners succeed.

“virtue signaling” hey I know what that means it’s like when you carry you’re Bible into church. Your parents must be so dang proud of you.

Nice points. It makes the achievements of Mr Chesereck (sp) even more incredible as a freshman...Assuming his age is correct.
