Wow, he went from baller to beta. Seriously though, Washington had 6 milers ahead of Oklahoma's first in the standings this year. They also had 2 1:46 guys ranked in the top 15. How the hell do they possibly not just not win, but get 5th?? It just don't make no sense.
He ran 2:18 in the 1000 earlier this year. But I thought I saw it was Nathan Green on the brodcast. But f--- off everyone who wants to judge Washington based on their postseason results. Their accomplishments should be celebrated
Assuming that guys weren't injured or super worn out from the prelims (they shouldn't have been, nobody had to run a fast prelim), the coach really sh!t the bed by putting out the lineup that they did. Nathan Green was the obvious choice to put on the 1200, he's a 1:46/3:53 guy, which would leave Cass Elliott (who only had to run a 1:53 in the prelims) for the 8. You could literally put any other of the 5 milers left on the 1600 and they all could have run faster than Oklahoma's anchor.
I think something must have happened to Elliott after his 800 prelim which must have put a wrench in things.
We weren't able to interview the UW guys at length after the mile prelims as they are going to find out right now who is on the DMR. Aaron Ahl, who didn't make it out of the first heat, did tell me that they were all about to find out who is on the DMR and it could be any of them.
Then the second heat ended and 2022 NCAA 1500 champ Joe Waskom, who looked great in winning heat 2, walked off the track and said to assistant coach Chris Kwiatkowski "Put me on the anchor."

Elliott only ran 1:53 in the open 800 and failed to qualify, finishing seconds behind. Why would they put him on the DMR?

Because he's run 1:46 and his prelim heat was bizarre and overly tactical, and him running the 8 would would free up Green to give WU a stronger 1200 leg. Did you even read the last sentence of my post though? I said there must have been something up with him for them not to run him.

Are you people really this uninformed? It's VERY hard for most people to double back. I totally get why Lumb - who has a 3:52 pb - fresh on the anchor.
Anyone else was going to be tired. You are sure tired 3:52 guys can easily beat a fresh 3:55 guy like Ok State anchor?
Now maybe if your reverse it and Waskom anchors gets it with a lead, he's more motivated can heroically hold on to it, but also it's quite possible he gets run down. Did you see his 1200 leg? It was quite mediocre. Why? Because he was tired.

Lol that 3:55 miler Okie state has dusted Washington’s 3:52 miler at the Arkansas Qualifier. find another argument

The extra 5 minutes recovery time could have made a big difference and allowed Waksom to be fresher

A baller would have stepped up and walked down the leader. That’s a baller. What you’re describing is a young man with school spirit.
Yeah the scheduling for this meet isn't the greatest. It would make more sense to just run both the men's and women's heats before moving on to the next event instead of running all women's events then all men's. Running the mile, 800 prelims and DMR in less than 2 hours just seems silly.

It makes doubling much harder. If that is good or bad is up to you. And you have to wonder how it affects these guys miles the next day.

Your negativity is horrible. Accomplishments are what they are and shortcomings are what they are. What Washington did during the regular season is incredible. Having 4 All-Americans in one race has never been done before and Keiran Lumb got all-american in the 3000.
