For some reason you have been posting a lot of negative things lately about Sean Brosnan even though you have no idea what you're talking about.
Brosnan asked for and received permission from the NCAA compliance person in UCLA's athletic department in December to coach Lex and Leo Young. So no NCAA violation took place.
Brosnan started coaching Lex and Leo shortly after NXN, replacing his wife who had been Lex and Leo's coach up to and including NXN. That information was posted on this message board back in December. This not NEW news.
Unlike many states there is NO winter track and field in California, so there hasn't been a high school team for them to be a part of anyway for the past two and a half months.
At the time Brosnan started coaching Lex and Leo it was originally only supposed to be from mid December until World u20 xc. Whether Brosnan was going to coach them in the spring or not was not going to be decided until after Lex and Leo returned from World u20 xc.
Thanks for clarifying Sean. Why not just post under your name? There is only one single person who would know all this detail. You’ve had a busy day defending yourself against the “haters” on all the threads.
Here we go with the oldest trick in the book and try and claim the person the haters are posting about has replied.
Speaking of LA Running Farm, Brosnan get a high altitude camp set up at Big Bear where UCLA distance athletes can live, taking classes remotely, with maybe some type of NIL media arrangement helping with costs? Maybe a pro training camp for the LA ‘28 pipeline?

This post is the most confusing.
Are you now implying I'm Brosnan? Now I have heard it all. What are you talking about camp?

"boomer here" posts at least once a month about his fantasy of moving all of UCLA's distance runners to a high altitude camp for months at a time during the school year. He's nuts. Pay no attention to him.

Strange, but I get it now.
I'm excited to see Leo Young run the 1500m at Sound Running this weekend. After getting 16th at World cross country champs it will be interesting to see how that converts to a 1500m

Depends upon the workouts Brosnan has been prescribing to sharpen him up. Any info in that regard?

Leo has all season to run a fast 1500.
After running two really good 8k's recently, I would have preferred to see Leo run a 10k.
All the people here crying about breaking NCAA rules don't actually know the NCAA rules. There's a set of exceptions around "local" clubs that allow NCAA coaches to be involved in club running even if those SAs are hypothetically possible prospects.
Anyways who cares? A coach is helping some of their top athletes see it through to end of their high school time so they can be best prepared for whats next, thats good for everybody with a stake in the situation.
If this is against the rules, then it’s a pretty lame rule.
Brosnan was this kid’s coach for three years and had been coaching his brother for years before that.
Imagine if you had an English teacher in HS that you knew for 5+ years and who helped you become a great writer. I would imagine that your relationship would be such that you would still connect with that teacher for writing advice/assistance/guidance even if they no longer taught at your school.
If Brosnan was contacting random kids across the country and getting paid to coach them individually outside of their teams, I would say that’s breaking the spirit of this rule, but the Youngs are family.
Lex and Leo are no long running for Newbury Park. If they run for a club, group, etc , then they can be coached by anyone. Even someone coaching a college program can coach them.
Also, his wife isn't coaching NP anymore from my understanding.
As a non-American, this entire thread is incredibly confusing. I will never understand why the NCAA rules are so complicated, and also why everyone just accepts them without pointing out that they're mostly dumb.

this is an clear violation and the reason behind the rule is obvious. The NCAA doesn't want the coach writing workouts for high school athletes because it becomes a de-facto tryout where workout performances are used to determine if a roster spot should be offered or if a scholarship should be offered.
It could turn into a situation where the only way to get a scholarship at UCLA is to have Brosnan writing your training since 7th grade.
There is the obvious tampering that is occurring as well. They signed a letter of intent at Stanford. College coaches are not supposed to contact recruits after they sign elsewhere. For example Brosnan is technically not even allowed to text Nico at NAU to say congrats after a race because that is tampering.
This stuff just rubs me the wrong way. These coaches are so egotistical. Must have your cake and eat it too. Takes the UCLA job but has to also keep coaching the best kids on the high school team.
The (lack of) effort put into hiding the name of who he’s coaching on that post just shows that he wants everyone to know he’s still coaching the Youngs because it’s not good enough that they run well, everyone needs to know it was all because of him.
These coaches who make it all about them are the worst. I feel bad for the kids.
I'm glad someone said this. I'm glad people agree.
In his most recent Instagram story he has shown giving workout instructions and badly censors out (on purpose no doubt) that the person he's texting is lex young. Seems the rumors are true.
This would be a violation of NCAA rules.
There is a rule about a runner running for a club you coach if it's the closest option or something like that. Maybe he's not breaking any rules, but it's not a good look to be blatantly coaching high schoolers.
With all of the crazy stuff going on of recruiting players to other school using NIL $$$ as bait while they are on another roster....then this is really not a big deal.
