Watched a kid from University of Buffalo get a yellow card in one of the mile heats at BU a few weeks back for throwing elbows off the starting line causing a restart… had never seen it before thought it was always a DQ
Is it a rule change or a new point of emphasis for officials maybe, this yellow card thing? The nature of our sport means there's not much of substance you can do as a penalty other than DQ -- no marking off five yards, no two minutes in the box or whatnot. But at times officiating in track has been excessively DQ-happy in my opinion. The Rio Olympics were a prime example, DQs left and right, protests and reinstatements like crazy. Did the rules people implement these yellow card things as a way to recognize relatively minor infractions without having to literally DQ everyone whose elbow swings a little wide?
On the other hand, does it really do anything to stop people from committing minor infractions? It's hard to see how it would unless they had a carryover system where you got DQ'd if you did it again at the next meet, the next round of the event, whatever. Like a second yellow in soccer gets you kicked out.
He was on his way to go pick up his son from school. Do you want him to abandon his son so he can make phone calls, look up the entire race video, screen record a gif, and type up a 3 page summary of the infraction? NO.
He was smart to post a thread and seek information. real journalism happens in real time on twitter now. real journalists get their info from other contributors online because it's quicker and more reliable than calling their anonymous sources who have an agenda to push.
the fact remains that no other website covers running better than LRC
I am doing my job. I saw the results right as I was headed out the door to pick up my son from school. Instead of rewinding the stream, figuring out what hapepned, I figured I'd post here and save time by getting a quick answer from someone who watched it live.
Plus if this messageboard isn't a lively and informative place for track and field fans, then the website doesn't exist. So I was creating a win-win-win
I was a) going to get the info I needed and b) helpd the messageboard and c) save time.
Many people don't think of it this way but I've always thought of one of key things we do at LetsRun.com is save people time. Yes, you could find all the articles we do but it takes hour a day to curate them etc. Yes I could go find the stream, rewind it (well I"m assuming that's possible) but that takes time. So in this case, you were going to save me time.
So how about, why don't you do your job and create from free UGC for me?
exhibit A for why the brojos are hilariously out of touch and LRC is... well... what it is
I’ve been reading through these posts and am having a hard time figuring out if people are really this big of a//hols or if it’s done in jest such as when you make fun of good friends. The diction and intent just seem to have malice. why?
rojo i am 100% ok with you permanently banning the morons that criticize every single thing you do. nobody expects you to be perfect but these whiny brats are really annoying.
the fact that they could chose to read the post and ignore it and move on, but they chose to waste their own time just to insult you shows that they are sick and demented.
they want you to be on the job 24/7, while they don't even do their own job as they are posting on letsrun while they are at work.
i used to be amused by posters who thought they had a genuine say on who gets 🚫 and the length of time. Now i feel sorry for you little snowflakes.
I watched the video of this on twitter and it was hardly anything at all. They weren't exchanging blows. I think the officials were over reacting. At the end of the race it didn't show anyone of the athletes getting up in each others faces.
