1:46.61! That presumably gives him D3 records at 800 and mile. He should be getting pro offers after graduation. That gives him some seriously good potential when he trains with pros. I would not be surprised to see him running low 3:50s next year.
Lol
A Pro running contract for an MIT grad student
Yaa…. That’s what he is aiming for
I assume he’s not going to be finished with his grad program after just one year, so a semi-pro contract where he gets a stipend, travel expenses etc would make sense. Matt McDonald (2:09 marathoner/ MIT chem engineering post doc) does this with the BAA. Wilson just about meets their published High Performance Team standards:
I don't get what the controversy is. Good for him for running an amazing time when it doesn't really matter.
I also don't think he'll win both at Nationals.
He said on interview he might not run the 800 at nationals, rather the 3000 and mile or maybe even DMR. He didn’t say why but I would attribute it to the scheduling proximity of the mile and 800.
Either way we’ll likely have to wait for outdoor to see him drop anything faster in the 8/15.
Didn’t Blanks, Iverson, and Henz all break 4 as well?
Sub 4 isn’t even fast though - I get it’s noteworthy for his college, but it’s a slow time. I ran D1 at a school as good (not specifying which one of the four it was though) and seeing people break 4 is normal. This shouldn’t be a news article though

Besides Washington this year, I'd say running 3:55 is pretty noteworthy. His time would be #8 AT at Oregon, #1 at Colorado, and #2 at Stanford.
Some other academically strong D1 Programs: Princeton: He'd be #1 (School record is 3:56) Michigan: Can't find a top 10 but Nate Brannen has the school record at 3:55.11.

For MIT/D3 the times are notable. I think the 1:46.6 actually is more notable. Nobody's mentioned Texas, but that could be an ideal school for training partners with Carrozza/Bizimana who are 800m guys who have some mile chops as well.

DMR will lose to Loras.
He's barely going to qualify in the 3000 so that would be dumb.
If I were him, I'd run the 800 and the DMR and call it a day.
